I had a similar story with Safilo. bought Gucci glasses around $300 retail, and months later, one of the hinges broke. 2 eye stores I took the glasses to told me it's unrepairable and that those glasses were poorly made.
after PAYING Safilo to "evaluate" my glasses, they determined that they were not a manufacturer's defect, and they generously offered to sell me the same glasses at a "courtesy" discount of $169. a quick internet search found that this is the current retail price of these glasses anyway...

that's a good business model they have there. they collect free leads who obviously need product, and basically trying to sell them under the cover of offering a "warranty". what a sham.

Safilo did exactly what they should have done.  You purchased a sunglass that comes with a warranty covering ONLY manufacture defects such as loose hinges or screws or bubbles in the lenses..... they do not cover any kind of breakage because they know that sunglasses break if they are not taken care of or if they are worn or misused.  Safilo pays people to evaluate the 'wear and tear' on a sunglass, obviously in your case, the sunglasses were worn and that is what caused the break in your hinge.  Next time you buy nice shades, you should look into the vendor warranty and not rely on the manufacture warranty.  Sunglass Hut has a 90 day return policy covering everything for 90 days....they would have gladly exchanged your worn and used sunglasses.  Nordstrom is by far the best place to purchase designer sunglasses though.  Dont be mad at Safilo, you only paid $300 for the name brand the Italian make of the sunglass, not the warranty.
