We had some financial issues last month and our electricity was shut off by SRP. They had recently come out and replaced our meter with a new digital meter. It was confirmed by SRP that with those meters comes the ability to "remote disconnect" their customers service just like the cable and phone companies do. Hence, they no longer have to send someone out to your home. With that said, let's take a look at my bill.

Mind you, the problems started when we had issues paying a $270 so SRP see's fit to charge you through the nose for shutting the service off and then turning it back on.

1. Monthly service charge (what the hell is this anyway? What service??) - $17.20

2. Energy (kWh) charge - $149.51

3. Tempe City tax - $3.00

4. County and States tax - $10.50

5. FIELD VISIT FEE (they don't come out to your home any longer!) - $27.03 How in the hell do they come up with THAT number anyway? 3 cents?

6. Delinquent Disconnect Charge (I had problems paying the bill to begin with so now they're charging me to SHUT OFF my service??) - $70.27 (how do they come up with that odd number as well??)

7. Premium Reconnect Charge - $21.62 I was told it would be $20 and this was to turn our service back on the same day that it was shut off. We could have had it turned back on for "free" but we would have had to wait an additional 24 hours.

8. DEPOSIT BILLED - $93.00 We were informed that we would have to pay "another deposit" on top of the $300 they already have. This was supposed to be split up over the next few bills.....

9. Late Payment Fee - $4.81 they get you coming and going!

10. DEPOSIT BILLED - $92.00 what happend to splitting this up???

So after all is said and done, the grand total is $488.45. We are being billed for services that never occurred as they no longer send anyone out to you rhome, we were double billed the deposit and we were never told the fee for simply pushing a button to turn off our service was going to be $70.

It's not like we have any choice in the matter; there is no other electric company we can use in our area. I woudl advise that everyone start inspecting your bill. I have to give them a call to try and fight some of these outrageous charges. I will update this and let you know what happens!

Get on MPower

AUTHOR: Misty - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 08, 2009

Well after much arguing, SRP was only willing to reduce the bill by a mere $40 and still charged us an additional $300 deposit.

We switched to their MPower system and most of our deposit was applied toward our outstanding bill. I had tried MPower in the past and didn't like it very much but I am now starting to see the savings! We can monitor our electric useage minute by minute each and every day and this is helping us get a handle on how much we are using. Great for us and great for the environment as well. We used $5.45 in electricity all day yesterday.....

If you are having problems with SRP and your bill SWITCH TO MPOWER!!! You don't have to deal with them at all after that!

After further checking......

AUTHOR: Misty - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 19, 2009

I discovered that we actually have a deposit of $333 with these ripoff artists...... I examined their website for information and despite the fact that they have this niffty little "disclaimer" which states they update their website perodically and aren't responsible for its content, I am emailing them with some facts I found.

1. I received my bill and it's dated 3/11/2009. On 3/18/2009 I received a disconnect notice which indicated they would be disconnecting my service on 3/19/2009. PER THEIR WEBSITE......

What happens if my bill payment is late?
Regular monthly bills are due upon issue. If we don't receive payment by the close of business on the 21st day after billing, the account becomes delinquent. We will then mail a reminder notice to you, and a late fee of the greater of $4.45 or 2% of the billing amount plus tax will be added to the account. If we do not receive payment by the close of business on the 28th day after billing, we may disconnect your electric service without further notice."

Let me do the math on that one....... The bill is dated 3/11/2009 and they are telling me they will disconnect on 3/19/2009.... That doesn't seem to be the 28 days that their website claims I have; am I right?

2. The "Monthly Service Charge" on their site is listed as being $12 (you may want to go check your own electric bills after this!) yet I see a charge for $17.20. From their website.......

Price comparison
These tables illustrate the Basic Price plans. The green shading in the chart below indicates lower priced kWh. Red shading indicates the higher priced kWh.

Summer Summer Peak
First 2000 kWh
(lower price) 10.19 per kWh 10.73 per kWh
Above 2000 kWh
(higher price) 10.61 per kWh 11.19 per kWh
Monthly Service
Charge $12 per month $12 per month

Winter
First 400 kWh
(higher price) 8.79 per kWh
Above 400 kWh
(lower price) 6.88 per kWh
Monthly Service
Charge $12 per month"

3. Let's now examine the Residential Service Fee's they list on their website. I am paying a total of $91.89 for the disconnect and reconnect of my service on the same day. Their websites lists that fee as a flat $85 and it's not two seperate charges. That was also a price based on SRP actually having to have someone physically at a location to manually disconnect the service; with the new meters they no longer send someone out.

4. The "Premium Reconnect Charge" as I was told would be $20 and that was to have service restored the same day it was turned off. I am being billed $21.62. Their website doesn't even list this as a seperate charge; it's rolled in to the "disconnect" fee of a flat $85.

I will keep you posted on their response to my email.
