I have worked for Salvation Army for about three months; I thought it would be a fun and simple job. For a place
that I thought would be fairly decent it has a lot of drama to put up with on a daily basis. Everyone I worked with are good people and I never had problems with other employers, but the managers were a different story.

I started my job as a runner, someone who hangs clothes from movable racks with clothes from other stores, to the aisle racks of the current store. As I was beginning I was told to do as much as I could, within weeks I was running about
600 pieces a day. The manager and assistant manager pulled me into the office and told me that I needed to do better since I have been there for a while and my requirements were not a 1,000 pieces a day. I agreed to do as I was told for
the five hours I was there, five days out the week.

But soon I began to see that while it was possible to run a 1,000 pieces in five hours, it was impossible to do that with interruptions on a daily basis. I had to help customers with their questions and even help move furniture, which
would take up to a half hour at times. And even though we had community service help out on some days, none would stay until the store closed at 7:30. So by the end of the day there were three people left, an assistant manager, a hanger and of course me. And I would be told to start cleaning the store, note that only I would be left to clean the whole store alone, at around 6:30.

So now I have about three hours to do my actual job and still expected to run a1,000 pieces. After a month I got called into the office again and was told by the manager that I wasn't doing so well. Mind that I was running about 800 to
900 within three hours; I was told that they would be moving me to another position and if that would not work out they would be firing me. I was a cashier for a day, until I decided I had enough and told them I was done.

The managers there are horrible, the assistant manager tried to get me fired on different occasions for not showing up on a scheduled days. But she would create the schedule on a Friday or Saturday and not post it for any of the
employees to see. Then she would post it on Monday mornings and I would come in on Tuesdays since I am always off on Monday and find out that I had to work that day. Even when she wasn't capable of posting it I would ask if I was off that day just to be sure she would not screw me over again, and come to find out the same story again. I was denied a switch to a morning shift from an evening one once I told them I needed to attend school, and I was not able to attend school anymore.

The assistant manager never did anything for the store, she never cleaned, never helped, she just sat there at the register or in the back office on her cell phone all day long. She is lazy and very rude, and seems like she picked
who she liked and who she did not. While the store manager was very pleasant always busy with anything and everything the store or customers needed. Also the head of the Salvation Army is a lady that likes to call herself the
"Major" is beyond rude. She comes in to check on the stores and proclaims that she is a Christian and that all the employees need to reflect that as well. Smile, be pleasant, help customers and do not complain. Yet she seems to care less for any employer, if she was to find out that you had a complaint about the managers you got fired, if she found out you had another job or looking for one, you were to get fired.

For someone who claims that they are Christian and so are her stores, she does not one bit act on it. She speaks to her employees like they are nothing, treats them like crap and speaks to them with no dignity.I am ashamed to say I
worked for a place that could care less for their employees. Their prices have shot through the roof not even the customers want to come back. I am not surprised I would not even buy anything from there because they try to make
such high profit of something that was donated to them. This is suppose to be a store for people that are poor, that need clothes and things just as any person, and they cannot even buy anything themselves. I would turn everyone
away from coming to any of the branches of Salvation Army.
