I purchased a CD from this store located at Flat Irons Crossing Mall. The kid at the register said hey , how about a free weekly Entertainment Magazine. I said Ok thank you. I made my purchase with a Visa Credit card. On July 7th, 2003 i found a strange transaction made by a TCI EW on my bank statement. Called my Bank they gave me a tele number to the people who charged my card. It was Weekly Entertainment. They stated that Sam Goody had a promotion going to get subscribers to thier magazine.

I put 2 and 2 together and advised EW that I did not autorize this chagre and to remove and canell any further transactions . They did so and refunded my money. I have called and left messages fro Sam Goody at Flat irons and no one returns my call. I am going to the store this week with my attorney to file fraud charges against them. Watch out for stores ( employees ) doing this without your consent. By the way for those wondering if i had signed anything ? No I had not signed any paper or reciept authorizing any purchase ot subscription of EW.

They keep all of that stuff on file, if you truly did not sign for ANYTHING then they did wrong. and even if some chance it did happen EW and SAm Goody do whatever they can to fix the problem. It happened to me and I did sign up for it but forgot to cancel. They refunded my credit card and gave me a 20$ GiftCard, best retailer in town.

Darryl,

I'm sorry that you felt you were ripped off but I used to work for Sam Goody that did the free Entertainment Weekly offer.

To process your order, you had to sign a document that says you AUTHORIZED YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO BE USED. And the brochure that had to be filled out and ran through the computer had all the details of the offer and how if you did not cancel in a certain amount of time your credit card would be cancelled. While I did not like this part of my job I always made sure the customer read the brochure before purchasing.

IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT ISN'T. All you had to do was call the number that was on the brochure and your credit card statement and cancel and you would have been fine. If the customer service rep at the store did not explain the program to you properly it was your responsiblily to ask and read the brochure that was near the register. ALWAYS MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS WITH PERSONAL INFORMATION.
