I purchased a 40" Samsung LCD Television in March of 2008, model # LN-T4061FX. The TV has started exhibiting power on issues. When powered on, the front LED flashes and a few minutes later the TV powers off. There is clicking sound when this occurs, indicating a relay failure. Evidently this issue is more wide spread than I suspected.

There are many customers experiencing problems with the power supply circuit board. Samsung chose to use cheap low voltage capacitors on this circuit board. This is a simple mistake that, likely, hundreds of customer are or will be forced to deal with on most Samsung LCD TV models purchased between 2007-2008.

I naturally contacted Samsung support, which was utterly dissapointing. I was told they could not do anything for me, the woman on the phone agreed that she had heard of these problems before. Her suggestion was to locate my own TV repair shop as she could not locate an authorized Samsung service center within a 50 mile radius of where I live. This is not easy for me, and will be an expensive repair.

I have since confirmed that 2 of the capacitors on the power supply board are bad.

I have not yet replaced them as I feel I should not have to do this. This television is only 14 months with little usage. This is absolutely unacceptable and Samsung should be ashamed. At the very least Samsung should acknowledge their mistake and offer to replace the power supply circuit boards on all defective televisions. I've no doubt that Samsung's customer service department is already receiving calls regarding this problem and will likely continue to receive such calls.

It is extremely upsetting to have to consider making another $1k plus purchase for a product that should have laster longer than 14 months. This is inexcuseable. As such, Samsung has lost another customer due to their own negligence and unacceptable quality standards. In addition, I will be blogging/tweeting about this problem. Since Samsung obviously refuses to clean up their mess, I will devote a reasonable amount of my time influencing people to buy something other Samsung products.

In a time where credibility is so important I hope this sends an important to companies like Samsung that think they can get away with providing subpar products to consumers. Without us, you would be nothing. I once had a great deal of respect for Samsung and would have never hesitated to consider purchasing the products from them. I will never forget this experience and it will always influence future purchasing decisions. Samsung will be at the bottom of my list.
