D. N. Aruta: i paid for your product, it is not up to me to work for you.  make sense.
John Dwivedi: SanDisk define 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes.  Operating Systems define 1 MB as 1,048,576 BYTES (1024K X 1024K or 2 to the 20th power).

John Dwivedi: I apologize for any inconvenience however this is the correct capacity that you get from a 8GB drive.
John Dwivedi: This is due to the difference in the way memory is calculated by Computers(Operating systems) and Memory manufacturers(SanDisk etc). This is applicable not only to SanDisk but all memory manufacturers.
John Dwivedi: Are you still with me?
D. N. Aruta: yes sir young man

D. N. Aruta: CONFIRM YOU WILL SEND REPLACEMENT.  THANK YOU.
Brad G.: If I send you a new Flash drive that would not make any difference. You would not be able to utilize the full capacity. It would allow you to use only 7.5 GB capacity.
D. N. Aruta: USE YOUR MATHEMATICS AND FIND ONE THAT WILL WORK ACCORDING TO YOUR CALCULATIONS AND DELL COMPUTERS.
Brad G.: I completely understand your frustration.
D. N. Aruta: wHERE IS GHANDI?
D. N. Aruta: SOLUTION IS THE ONLY ANSWER
D. N. Aruta: WHY SO DIFFICULT ON INEXPENSIVE ITEM?
Brad G.: Its not the flash drive which is giving you the less capacity its the computer which is not reading the capacity because it is designed in this way only.
D. N. Aruta: NO MORE DOUBLE TALK, YOU UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION.  JUST DO IT NOW.
D. N. Aruta: i PUT YOU SANDISK 8MB INTO MY COMPUTER NOW.  IT IS CONNECTED ON DRIVE H
Brad G.: Please make a single right click on Drive H and click on properties.
D. N. Aruta: LOOK FALSE ADVERTISING TO NOVICE COMPUTER PEOPLE.
D. N. Aruta: 6 items is what I see
Brad G.: You will get the properties option over there if you make a single right click on the flash drive icon. You can check with the available capacity of the flash drive over there.
D. N. Aruta: YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY HOPELESS IN SOLVING THIS \
Brad G.: D. N. I am trying my best to help you.
Brad G.: I would need to know the available capacity and the used capacity of the flash drive?
D. N. Aruta: REPLACE THE UNIT WITH ONE THAT WORKS .
D. N. Aruta: BRAD, I DO NOT GET PAID TO WORK FOR YOU , I PAY AND BUY YOUR PRODUCT SO YOU CAN WORK FOR ME. UNDERSTAND?
Brad G.: I can replace the unit for you but would like to inform you that you would not be able to use the full capacity of the flash drive. Would that be alright?
D. N. Aruta: YOU MEAN THAT SCAN DISK DOES NOT HAVE HIGHER GB TO WORK LIKE 9 0R 10. THEN REPORT TO YOUR SUPERIORS AND YOU MIGHT GET A PROMOTION.
D. N. Aruta: Rgwe==  there is a 26k program there to connect to the internet via win i do not wish to do that
D. N. Aruta: am using google, which is not a good friend of win.
D. N. Aruta: Mr. Brad G. you can order one here. get your bosses permission <a href="http://shop.sandisk.com/store?SiteID=sdiskus&Action=DisplayCategoryProductListPage&categoryID=13937600&pgm=56344300&OfferID=944161909" target="_blank">http://shop.sandisk.com/store?SiteID=sdiskus&Action=DisplayCategoryProductListPage&categoryID=13937600&pgm=56344300&OfferID=944161909</a>
Brad G.: We do have a higher capacity of the flash drives which will allow you to save more data on it.
Brad G.: You can buy a 32GB flash drive as well
Brad G.: I can provide you a 10% discount as well if you wish to buy a product from SanDisk online store.
D. N. Aruta: no solution me buying, i did buy, cannot return for i destroyed packaging you send it.
D. N. Aruta: no no
Brad G.: If you have a 9GB data on your dell computer than you cannot save the data on your 8Gb flash drive. You would have to purchase a 16Gb flash drive in order to save the data.
D. N. Aruta: what is your salary, this item only cost US$ 7.99 plus 8.25% tax.  you send me  one that works.
D. N. Aruta: Staples selling them on sale
D. N. Aruta: I have no other scan disk.
D. N. Aruta: eeeeee sandisk
D. N. Aruta: how many times do you have to tell me it will not work.
Brad G.: Staples is an authorized reseller of SanDisk products. You can purchase the product from staples as well if they are offering a better price.
D. N. Aruta: my postal address is in the chat.   forgetabout it. Staples does not service sandisk.  I am getting disgusted with your cheap outfit.
Brad G.: I can understand that you are unable to transfer the data of 9Gb onto a 8Gb flash drive the only solution is to buy a new flash drive of 16GB. As you have mentioned that staples if offering a better price than you can buy a new flash drive from them.
Brad G.: So you want SanDisk to replace the 8Gb flash drive with a 16Gb for you. Right?
D. N. Aruta: logic my friend, they are dumping a defective product which will hurt your reputationl. send a flash drive with 9mb you have an education? or just dumb?
D. N. Aruta: I do not know what you sizes are, this is my first experience with sandisk
Brad G.: I would like to inform you that there are some standards and you canot manufacture a 9Gb flash drive. Either it would be of 8Gb or it would be of 16GB.
D. N. Aruta: yes that would be very nice to satisfy a customer.
D. N. Aruta: do it 16gb ok.
Brad G.: Please allow me 2 minutes while I look into my resources.
D. N. Aruta: thank you Brad G.
Brad G.: I would like to inform you that SanDisk would not be able to provide you a new flash drive with a 16GB caoacity. You can buy a 16GB flash drive to transfer the data.
Brad G.: We would not be able to replace the 8GB flash drive with a 16Gb flash drive for you.
Brad G.: Are you still with me, D. N.?
D. N. Aruta: y
D. N. Aruta: if not sandisk will not have a friend here.
D. N. Aruta: what solution do you offer?  no more double talk
Brad G.: You can buy a new flash drive if you need more capacity. SanDisk would not be able to provide you a replacement.
D. N. Aruta: I am not buying,, you fooled me with fraud.  what school grade are you in?
Brad G.: You cannot transfer a 9GB data on a 8GB flash drive. I have explained you everything why the flash drive is giving you a 7.5GB capacity not the full 8GB
D. N. Aruta: your next shipment from China may not make it. I do not fool around for 7.99 <a href="http://www.shiparrested.com/california-roberts-kehagiaras-llp.html&quot; target="_blank">http://www.shiparrested.com/california-roberts-kehagiaras-llp.html&lt;/a>
Brad G.: I can replace the 8Gb flash drive for you with an 8Gb flash drive but not the 9GB.
D. N. Aruta: sorry your boss is cheap.
D. N. Aruta: if it works fine with Dell.
D. N. Aruta: if it does not work, i am not a fool
D. N. Aruta: are you a real person or a robo? TEXTER?  BEGINNING TO SOUND LIKE THAT IF YOU LISTEN INSTEAD OR SEEIING  LIKE THE BLIND MAN WHO PICKED UP HIS CAN STICK AND SAW

D. N. Aruta: I have wasted hours here for pennies
D. N. Aruta: go
Brad G.: D. N. I tried discussing this case further and as far as your situation is concern I would like to inform you that this is a universal behavior of any flash storage device. I am really very sorry for the inconvenience but there is nothing much which we can do for you.
Brad G.: I can only replace the drive for you with a 8Gb drive and you would be able to use 7.5Gb space not the full capacity of the drive.
D. N. Aruta: sorry you feel that way. take a look at the next report i will file here. San disk is there . <a href="http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/sandisk.aspx&quot; target="_blank">http://www.ripoffreport.com/Search/sandisk.aspx&lt;/a>

Conversion differences

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 27, 2012

This is a fact of life since the beginning of personal computers

It partly has to do with the conversion from binary system to decimal and vice versa.

1K is actually 1024 when the conversion is considered.  This is not a good place to go into this but you can either look it up on the Internet or get your local geek to explain it to you.  It's actually pretty simple once it's explained.

Then there are sector id's etc.

It's all normal and has to do with computer architecture.

They tried to explain it to you but you were bound and determined to make a fool of yourself.

What a goof!

"  Am not a high techie "

You do not even qualify as a "low techie" if you weren't able to grasp this concept in 5 minutes, much less 3 hrs.    I am amazed that SanDisk customer service put up with your rude and ignorant behavior for that long.   While it makes you look bad, it actually makes them look pretty good.

I challenge you to buy any 8GB flash drive that will show up on your operating system as 8GB.   Sandisk explained it to you, but you didn't make any attempt to understand it.   If you buy an 8GB drive from one of their competitors, are you going to torture them for 3 hrs. as well?    Will the world have to change its standard of memory measurement to suit you?

It can take up to 10% (usually less) to format a storage device. The 2TB hard drive on my computer has a 1.82TB capacity. That's life in the digital storage industry.

Analogy: You can jam pack 100 cars on a paved lot but after the yellow lines are painted to designate parking spaces you may be able to fit only 91 cars on the lot. A digital storage device is unable to store data without the yellow lines*.

*yellow lines=formatting
