I want to give some feedback on Sandoval Freestyle Karate school located in Gilbert Arizona. I went to this school for a total of 1 1/2 years, 1 year back in high school, and 6 months this year.

Here is why they are horrible:

THEIR CURRICULUM IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN. Moving through the belts you learn the same thing over and over again. Can you do a kick? BAM new belt. You dont really learn anything. And although I have been in martial arts for several years now, their so called "black belts", some of them being 2nd degree or testing for 2nd degree had almost no sparring technique, as well as very little form technique.

THEY ARE ALSO ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. I referred a friend few months ago, and then ridiculed them for not having an Arizona bank account even though they just moved here. Ripped up their contract and tried to charge them anyway.

THEY MAKE YOU SIGN AN INCREDIBLY LENGTHY CONTRACT AND DON'T ABIDE BY IT. In their contract they say if you move more than 25 miles away you can break your contract, however I moved to Prescott AZ, which is over 100 miles away from the school, and they sent me to collections 2 weeks after I told them I'm moving for over $4,000.00.

A Wonderful Experience for Me and My Family

AUTHOR: Scott - (United States of America)

Absolutely the best dojo I have ever been to, bar none!

I have studied martial arts for many years, in several different disciplines, in two states, and none of them ever had the devotion to a fun, educational, caring, family atmosphere that Sandoval Karate offers.

Being parents themselves, they know the value of positive influence and selflessness and how well it can define a child's core. From holding ones self accountable to reaching out to others and engaging the community to education and physical fitness, Sandoval's teachings have a lifelong impression on all they instruct.

All things being equal, I can think of no other martial arts dojo that offers what Sandoval Freestyle Karate can provide.

Great rates, support, accountability, family atmosphere, ... I could go on and on. See for yourself what my daughter and I have been witness to. You wont be disappointed. I know we're happy.

The Sandoval's Care Deeply and are Offended by these False Claims

AUTHOR: Rick J - (United States of America)

I'm sorry that a student just out of high school was upset with the Sandoval's after not being allowed to break his contract, but his comments about curriculum and the character attack on Allen and Kristi is absolutely unwarranted.

The curriculum at Sandoval Karate is far more challenging than run of the mill martial arts schools. I know for a fact that if you don't know your katas and self-defense moves for the belt you are testing for, you will not be awarded it. I've attending dozens of belt tests and witnessed many students who failed for not having practiced their movements enough; however, most student do practice regularly and do achieve belt advancement with ease.

Regarding the sparring technique of black belt students, how can you say they "had almost no sparring technique"? I've personally sparred just about every black belt in the school and can attest that each is highly skilled and worthy of wearing their belts. Not to mention, I've witnessed many of them win trophies in karate tournaments for sparring against extremely skilled martial artists.

I can assure you that for Allen and Kristi running a karate school is NOT "all about the money." It IS all about teaching and aiding students, while helping them to achieve their desired goals. You can't expect a karate school as successful as the Sandoval's to have made it in business for over 15 years if they weren't pationate and fully committed to their customers.

After reading the outlandish claims in this Ripoff Report, I decided to call Allen directly and ask him his side of the story. He tells a slightly different tale of events. In fact, he started off by telling me that when you decided to return to his school (why you returned after 1 year to a school that you claim is horrible with the worst curriculum you've ever seen is beyond me...) he went out of his way to help you rejoin his school knowing that you were in a tight financial situation.

Allen also mentioned that when asked to prove you had in fact moved to Prescott, you couldn't present a water bill or letter to your new address. What's even stranger to me is that Allen bumped into you at the gym (in Gilbert, Arizona) not too long ago... Short stay in Prescott?

To the gentleman who wrote the initial report, you took advantage of Allen and Kristi's kindness and when you tried to break your agreement with them and was told no, this isn't because the Sandoval's are greedy or ruthless in any way shape or form... This is simply business. Companies draft contracts for a reason, phone companies, landscapers, and even music companies have agreements with stakeholders so that they can continue to operate profitably far into the future. You knew what you were signing, no one twisted your arm... So why not do the right thing and remove your Ripoff Report?
