I financed a vehicle in 2006 with Citi-Bank. The account was sold to Santander Consumer USA, who then changed the due date on my loan without notifying me of any changes to the account. Over the life of the loan I made 71 payments to pay off the vehicle. Two of those payments were late. One payment for June 2008 was late by four days. The second late payment of July 2010 was late by one day. Both times Santander charged me late fees of $697.97, which they never informed me of until the loan was paid-in-full.

Santander has demanded I pay a total of $1,395.65 in late fees or they'll repo my truck. I've spoke to Santander's people at least four times about this and was told every payment over the life on the loan was late. It was then Santander informed me that the due date for my payments was on the 3rd or every month.

In fact before I made the 2nd payment to Citi-Bank I had requested a payment due date change. I'm disabled and get my SSI check on the 3rd of each month. Therefore I had Citi-Bank change the due date to the 10th of every month to allow enough time for mail delivery. The due date has always been the 10th, never the 3rd. No idiot would request a loan due date on the very day they get paid.

I've never received a late notice from Citi or Santander, I've never received notification that my account was ever past due, nor did they inform me of any additional charges concerning my loan. I never heard from either Citi or Santander over the course of making 71 payments, or 5 years & 9 months of payments.

Once the loan was paid off Santander simply and quietly added an additional $1,395.65, or 5 additional payments to the end of my loan. They demand I pay it or they'll take my truck. Santander Consumer USA is bad news. Stay away from this company. Being poor I cannot hire an attorney so they will bilk the entire amount from me before releasing the title, and there is nothing I can do about it.

If the payment is not processed by the due date, extra interest is added.

This is for the person that responded wondering why they have to pay extra when the payment is late. With these simple interest loans the interest accrues daily. So if Santander receives the payment late, even by one day, not only is a late fee due, but the added interest is due for the extra day(s). Is is right for Santander to hold your payment - no. I don't know how you would change that unless there is a way to pay the account online through an ACH payment. That way you know exactly when the payment posts to your account and can check on it if it doesn't clear through your account timely (24 to 48 hours).

Bank payments, automatic payment withdraws, online payments...

AUTHOR: Citibank-Santander Victim - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Diane,

What can I say Santander sucks. Back when Citi-Bank wrote my loan I set up automatic payment withdraw in order for Citi to take my payment on the 3rd of each month. I had all the paperwork, and spoke with a CS rep who set up the account. I thought I'd never have to worry about a payment again. I was out of town when the 3rd rolled around. Citi didn't take the payment. I caught it on returning home and called Citi and asked them why the payment was still sitting in my account. The CS person checked the banks computer and said, "I don't know, it looks like it was canceled for some reason 24 hours after you set this up." I asked why they had canceled my payment arraignment and the rep said, "It doesn't give a reason, but that's what happened."

So if there is a way to screw the pooch, a bank will find a way to do it. After that I took over all my payments online from home. Faithfully on the 3rd of each month for nearly 6 years I personally make my own payment, printed receipts and keep notes and records every time I talk to them. Best I could do.

Santander adding on extra fees

AUTHOR: denise - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 29, 2013

To Who it may concern I 100% agree with the consumers complanit but I would like to add a few other issues that Santanter has done to me  and  I want to know if this is legal?

I had a car  loan through Citi bank as well I was not notified by no banks that my loan was givenn to Santander? I was  getting the citibanks statements .I was sending out my payments and my checks were not being cashed for 3 wks to 4 wks .I called to ask who are you?? are you a collection agency? Santander repied No ..The answer  I also got was oh banks give us loans

This Santander bank would hold my checks  and  call me all hours of the day and nite  and my car loan was no even late

I have been wth Santander for over 2 years My payoff date is  suppost to be April 2013 and  there reply and dollar amount is  owe Xtra  is 491 dollars of  interest ? and  climbing .

Now , I called  C .S. and I was given different answers and run around stories ?   Now since last October 2012 my checks hae been reaching them late and I been sendin extra telling them to apply my Xtra money to the interest ? or Principle? which they  did not Santander applied it to my car payment!

First of all I never heard of extra interest and principle charges  on a  car loan thats  why when you buy th car that is figured in and you have a set number and if you do not pay on time there is a late fee which somtimes I sent the fee thinking I was late and my invoce told me  no extra fees due or late fees but my buy out is over 1100.00 dollars my car paymentis 229.00  until this  April !! Wrong the CS said I owed a different fees ..and fees or that and this ?

I have changed my due date wth Santader  so I can  make my payments on time . I sent over 255 dollar check  on Dec 27 They Santander  tells me they have not gotten it and call my bank it is there fault. I paid over the phone my January payent for 145.62 over the phone . I called about 10 days later to see   about  my December check  being received and the recording tells me  I am past due and applied a late fee to my January  again CS blamed my bank  blameing my bank sent and that my bank denied the January check.

I called my bank and they never received any checks and the company uses  E -check  that means the money gets taken out  ASAP . As telling Customer Service  my issues .My CS ask if the company was Santander and he replied he just

hd called the Santander for another customer  for not cashing her check either...and my bank said it was hard to get someone to talk to and my bank said he was talking to a oversea person? May I add when I would callan go through all the pompts I would get disconneted ..I talked real fast and Santander said call on a different phone because my phone had a block and it hangs up ???

Finally. I talked Santander to call three way with my bank saying money was not received  after that The CS played my 14 minute call and there overses girl did not write my numbers right!!! OOPS!!

I feel Santander has my Dec 27th check there is no way that Santander did not get my check I mailed it to from the USPS  and now if I put a stop payment on the check  then Santander will try to cash it after my last carpayment and use that check for the late fees after April

Th fees are not on my invoice and I did not sign up with them to be my lien holder and may I add on my invoce to mail back the a check  at least 2 addresses 1 in GA and on the return label of the envelop it has Texas???? so my check is in their hands ?? and there liars and then tac on their rules of fees and blames the consumer and ur banks

I am too disabled and My son is goin to be 21 and I wil lose money and  now they tell me they can repo the car.Its not right to hide hidden fees ...

whom can you direct me too Santander is not phased about how poor there reviews are or the consumers rights I wasted  days and over 2 hrs with trying to make a payoff deal and try to understand the Xtra fees???  This company is got my car if I do nt pay there fees or they will repo it after maing 7 and a half years HELP!!!
