So for a fee of $59, Screenplay Readers offers to analyze and critique your screenplay from a professional's point of view and return it to you within 48hrs I believe. They boast that they have many Hollywood contacts and years of experience in the industry. So under that premise, I submitted my screenplay with an additional request of a one page synopsis of the screenplay.

Now while with a time frame of 48hrs, I didn't expect anything tremendously detailed or long, I did expect a reasonably accurate coverage of my script.

What I received back was laughable. The synopsis seemed to be written by someone who had not read the screenplay very thoroughly, but also someone who didn't have a lot of experience writing a synopsis and didn't understand or care that a one page synopsis was requested, not three.

The entire coverage was peppered with glaring mistakes. Mistakes like mentioning events that never happened in the screenplay. Other mistakes like confusing scenes, characters, and dialogue.

But that's not the worst part. If you email them back criticizing their service, the owner of the service (and probably the guy who did the coverage in the first place) will email you back with a condescending and immature comments instead of taking a look at the coverage that was provided and perhaps offering to fix the mistakes or at least acknowledge them.

Worst service I have ever used as whoever read my script seemed to be a novice at best. Stay away from these guys, they're very unprofessional and unskilled.

Hey there internets!

It seems we've had a lot of unscrupulous folks abusing our 50% off coupon, posting it on forums and such, so we have to end that offer.  Sorry about that!

If you're skeptical about our service, that's cool!

But if we can't overcome that skepticism with our responses here, nor our 100+ actual testimonials on our site, nor our almost 15 years in business, and all our FAQs and blog posts, and Facebookings and Tweeterings, then we absolutely understand, and totally invite you to try other companies instead.

We're geared towards the pro screenwriter and producers/agents. And not every screenwriter wants to read a negative review of their screenplay, so we totally get that.  This gentleman was probably one such person.

We read almost 5,000 scripts every year, with that number always growing, so we probably won't ever escape criticism, such as the anonymously posted criticism here from the guy from "Pheonix, Arizona" - (I reckon they renamed it from "Phoenix," while I wasn't looking.)

Anyway, the best we can do in cases like this is to respond with honesty and integrity, and let the chips fall as they may.

Bottom line: We stand by our customers.  We stand by our service.  We're all all good people here, doing a great job.  It's just kinda hard to convey all that when your business gets maligned on a place called "The Ripoff Report."

Stay skeptical!  And best of luck.
Brian and Lynn

Re: Angry customer

Hey there, internet!  And hello angry customer.

We tried to make everything right with this customer, even offering a refund, but he seemed more interested in yelling and screaming at me.  We're a cool company, so we kinda get a little surprised when people start screaming right off the bat.

To address the angry customer's complaints, point-by-point:

1) We bent over backwards to please this customer, offering a discount, offering refunds, and had to finally just cut off communication when he kept screaming at me and my co-worker, Lynn.

2) We have a huge list of testimonials from happy customers - real people - on our site, so feel free to email any of those folks and ask what they thought of our services.

3) If you'd like a full transcript of my email communication with this gentleman, please email me and I'll be happy to provide it, while keeping his name and identity private.

4) My company provides critiques of screenwriters' screenplays, and every now and then, a screenwriter, (mostly the amateur screenwriters) get upset that our script analysts don't see in the script what may seem 100% perfectly clear to the screenwriter, who has spent years writing his script.

Our company has been in business since 1999, and has read thousands of scripts from thousands of screenwriters, agents, and producers.

But don't take my word for it.  Email me and I'll provide you a 50% off discount coupon code to try our service.  That way, this gentleman's word can be weighed against the service you receive from me, and you can determine for yourself whether or not this attack on my company from this gentleman was valid, or patently invalid.

Thanks for your time, and thank you sir, for your complaint!

I wish we could've worked things out in a more adult fashion, rather than taking to the internet, but I understand your anger, and I wish you the best.

Brian
