After reading home improvement horror stories about Sears from different locations, I figured out these problems are company wide and part of management training. I have been through the training process and these reviews are true. You are told to lie or mislead customers. I asked about an ongoing problem they would have with hanging new heavy doors on existing pressed wood product. I was told that Sears did many test on this and it was ok. I have an advanced degree and there is a problem with this process. The door will rip off, maybe not the first day but certainly within 5 years. Outside sales people will not make the money they promise. You may if lucky get 1 or 2 leads a day if lucky. Many will be shared, many will not be in the product you are semi trained in. If you are going to take the leap, I strongly suggest you get everything in writing. You will get promised 400 a week for 3 to 4 months which will quickly switch to 3 weeks of your training. You need to sign multiple papers quickly(I'm sure no accident) in which they will switch the 400 to minimum wage. It's a process with Sears, you will interview with at least 3 people in which previous benefits will be reduced or completely removed in each step. You will be told it's because your in a test market. Every time you get screwed it's because of the test market. They have been there many years so I guess your a test market for 50 years? In my professional opinion, these managers are professional liars with both customers and their employees. If you question anything about them not paying you correctly be prepared to be on their bad side.

It's a toxic environment in which they will get other sales people to turn on you as well. Remember the managers give you leads and if your not going to accept being robbed they are going to make your life miserable. Reading the other locations complaints it's obvious that these practices come from an even higher level of management. Lying is not only common practice but encouraged. Your best chance is to try to be a minion of sorts. Do the managers dirty work and get rewarded with more and better leads. If you have trouble being dishonest with customers I strongly suggest you look elsewhere
