I bought a refrigerator from the Sears Outlet store in the Arizona Mills Mall in Phoenix Arizona.  We checked it over carefully before purchasing the sales person documented the couple of dings it had on our paperwork before we purchased the fridge.  I applied for a Sears Charge card before the purchase in order to receive a discount on the purchase.  When the refrigerator was delivered it had dents and scratches on both the side panels, the front and left side of the freezer door and the French doors could not be lined up straight.  None of these issues were on the fridge the night before when we purchased it.  We called the store where we bought and talked to the sale person we had dealt with during the purchase.  He was very nice and very helpful from start to finish for the things he had authority to do for us.  The store manager blew us off and would do nothing to help us resolve our issues.  We arranged to have the fridge picked back up and returned to the store as soon as possible.  We had the fridge for about one week.

It took me THREE months to get Sears to acknowledge that we had returned the fridge to the store of purchase and get the refund credited to my Sear Charge Card account.  In the mean time the account was racking up late fees for the unpaid bill on the fridge purchase.  The refrigerator was the only purchase I had made with that card.  I wasn't going to pay them for something I had already returned to them just to stop the late fee charges on the account.  I could get no satisfaction out of the store manager or any other Sears employee that I talked to in their various customer service departments over the next 2 months, but I was cetainly passed around to enough different people all saying nice placating things and then not following through with anything they had just told me they would take care of.  After receiving the third monthly billing statement saying I still owed them for the fridge and now had two months of late fees on the account I called the Sears Credit Card customer service.  It turns out this is handled for Sears through Citibank, so I wasn't dealing with Sears at all.

I filed a formal dispute with them for the charges and that is when all the charges were removed from my account.  The Citibank people were very nice to work with and I appreciate all the help they gave me in filing the complaint.  The whole process was a disaster from start to finish and I will be closing my Sears account and NEVER purchasing ANYTHING from Sears or KMart again.
