We bought a new washer and dryer from our local Sears store. I also purchased additional materials that were needed for the installation and was told the installers would have those with them - hoses and a stack kit. A week later two gentleman showed up to install these appliances. They were not local installers but from some Sears home delivery outifit. They did not speak to us at all. They proceeded to install the stackable washer and dryer. We were then told they could not put the doors back on the closet - which is where the appliances were installed - even though I had explicitly told the salesperson the size of the space they were going and was assured they would fit. So, we let that go as we didn't feel we had any choice. They then turned on the washer and dryer and siad to let it run and if any problems we should  call the store - then promptly headed out the door. They never left us any paperwork or anything to sign to acknowledge that they had been there. A couple days later I went into an adjoining closet, where the vent from the driver was routed to - what I saw was appalling - they had jimmied up some kind of ventilation thing that wasn't even joined up or sealed. The part that they HAD sealed had duct tape on it - which is never supposed to be used for a dryer vent. There was lint all over the closet, as I had used the dryer a couple of times. The extra vent piece they added was so long that they had to bend the remaining existing piece, that went down through the floor, at an angle in order to try and make it fit.

I went down to the local store and showed them photos. To the store employees credit, he came out to our house a short itme later and he was also appalled at what they had done. He pointed out that one of the venting pieces they had used was some old piece of aluminum material and wondered if we had given it to them - which we had not - we had no idea where it came from. He said it wasn't even needed. The salesman then checked the units themselves and  pointed out that they had never installed the stacking kit that we had bought and paid for. He also had to move the units himself because we could not get anywhere near the water shut off valves because of the way they had placed the units.

The Sears local employee said there had been all kinds of complaints against this delivery service and I should call and vehemently complain. He said that they sent the install contract out to various bidders and the lowest bidder got the job. He indicated that they (the local store) now used local installers, but I couldn't use them - I would have to call the outfit that originally installed ours. There was nothing the local store could do.

So I have scheduled another visit to have the stacking kit installed, whcih will mean losing another days work becasue they can't give you anything less than a 12 hour window. And becasue they only do deliveries/installs, etc. on Tuesdays, we have to wait almost a month for a date that would work for us. We will see how that goes.

I am however worried that other aspects of this installation have not been done correctly. We really can't afford to have someone else locally (not associated with Sears) come out and look at it. We just spent about $1300 for the appliances! Which was also another issue becasue we really only needed a new washer - we were told however that they couldn't warranty or guarantee anything if a matching dryer was not installed.

While the local store owner was very friendly and tried somewhat to make the situation better, we still feel like we have been had by this companyy. He knew what we needed size wise and did nothing to try and fix that issue and then could not offer any assistance for getting the installation done correctly.

We will escalate things furher if the stack kit is not installed in a timely manner ir properly, or if something else goes wrong.
