When my husband was working we were with Pacificare. When he left since we were both over 65, we transferred to their Secure Horizons plan.

We both have many health issues so opted for their "enhanced plan" costing us each $43.00 per month and agreed to have it automatically removed from our bank account. We decided to switch to SCAN HMO the end of April effective May 1st. We are now in the month of November and they are STILL taking out the $43.00 a month for my husband. They have claimed he re-enrolled himself-not true-they have blamed it on Medicare or Scan or the full moon or whatever, but they have refused to stop taking money out of our account.

The only solution according to them is to close our bank account, which I refuse to do. They have also refused to put the withdrawal of funds on hold until this is resolved.

I have made calls every week or so to Medicare, Scan and Secure Horizons to no avail. I have also reported this to Social Security. In spite of the numerous grievances filed with all three, I am still threatened by Secure Horizons that if they do what I ask and disenroll him, he will have no HMO coverage with anyone and thus no prescription coverage.

Since he has a heart condition, this threat is very real. In spite of this, I told them today to disenroll him. They then informed me it would be 90 days before they returned my money with no guarantee they would stop taking money out of the bank until then. When I demanded an explanation for the 90 day delay-making this close to a year all together-I was told it was because they had to wait for notification from Medicare. When I asked what the notification was for, they couldn't answer, since we both know if he was tossed back into the Medicare plan they would not have to notify Secure Horizons of anything.

I feel this is a scam. Secure Horizons has known since May they have paid for no medical care or prescriptions for my husband. They just want the money. How many other people do they collect money from and threaten them when they want to disenroll or change insurances?

How many people who are over 65 and not in good enough health to deal with this are they collecting money from? I will never recommend them to anyone!

Rogue agents

AUTHOR: Joel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 18, 2008

As an agent I feel terrible reading these posts because I like Secure Horizons and haven't had any problems like these. I happen to know that agents are independent businesspeople and are capable of ruthless tactics. Insurance companies are well regulated and operate by the book. I also know that a large percentage of my fellow Americans could care less whether or not I get what I want, hence poor customer service. Secure Horizons gives me headaches just like all the insurance companies do. I would rather deal with the government!

Watch out for Secure Horizons

AUTHOR: K - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 26, 2007

I work in as a medical biller and have some helpful information. Some of our Medicare patients some how end up enrolled with Secure Horizons and don't even know they are with them. I'm not quite sure how this happens but it does! Our clinic currently excepts Medicare if you are an established patient but even our established patients end up with this insurance somehow. We will bill Medicare then Medicare sends us a denial stating the patient is now thru Secure Horizons. Not having the information on file, we will typically call the patient and ask them about it. And 99% of the time the patient will disagree and state they have Medicare. I'm not sure how Secure Horizons is getting them enrolled but they are!

They only advice I can give is watch was you sign, call you doctors billing office if your not sure, or Medicare. Secure Horizons is not as excpeted in most doctors offices as it is an HMO plan. Don't sign anything without asking questions first or you may be stuck with a bill from your doctor if they are not contracted with them.
