I've been with the company for about ten months. I enjoy working with the clients, but not my fellow Securitas workers.

Since I've been with this company I've had six workers disrespect me and the Branch manager or my supervisor would not talk this out with the other workers. I've been called B****'s and mutha f****'s, dumb, stupid, and to young to understand my job, It was not fair.

So recently I reported that another worker was being harassed and my branch manager told me the client was not complaining sol he did not care. So I told him I can't be a Post commander with no respect.

so he removed me of my post with no fair warning.

So I showed up to work that Monday and was told to leave because I no longer had my position. Just because he did not want to do his job in discipline so I went five dollars under my pay and got sent to a dirty post with late hours. And the office never wanted to discuss the matter they acted like nothing happened. This was unfair, they are wrong for not supporting me, When I've been nothing but my best.

LEAVE WHILE YOU CAN

AUTHOR: Security - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 14, 2007

DO NOT STAY IN CONTRACT SECURITY. I HAVE BEEN WOOKING FOR SECURITAS FOR ALMOST 7 YEARS BEFORE LEAVING LAST JULY. I GOT NO PROMOTIONS AND RAISES FOR THAT PERIOD OF TIME. THEY EVEN ATTEMPTED TO TAKE AWAY MY VACAION PAY FROM ME. THEY PUT ME IN FIRE SAFETY DIRECTOR SCHOOL. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO FIND ME A BETTER POSITION BUT THEY GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND. I DECIDED TO LEAVE AND WORK FOR IN-HOUSE SECURITY. SECURITAS WAS PAYING ME ONLY $12.00 AN HOUR. NOW I MAKE $20.00 AN HOUR AT A HOTEL AND I HAVE BETTER BENIFITS AND PAID DAYS OFF

Wait A Few Years and See How Things Go Then...

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Dear Michelle:

You didnt say how old you were.

Hey, when I was in my 20s and early 30s and working in private security, I was treated great. Later, I still made my uniforms look sharp and spit shined my shoes/ boots and still did a great job but to no avail.

Gender matters. So does age.

Maybe things are different for women security officers in Abilene ,TX. You all have a college and you all still have a military installation there, I think. Abilene is 360 degrees from Austin, I am told. People there don't jack with you and not everybody is competing for the incredibly scarce jobs and affordable housing in Austin so they do what they can do to get rid of you.

I am not in Austin,TX anymore. Enough is enough.
I still never understood why some people LOVE it so much there... As soon as I got my education, I was gone.

I think that the lady in the original post here has a good case for gender discrimination and possibly racism too.

Securitas is a bad place to work! The private security companies that were consolidated to become Securitas were bad places to work too which is why they were in trouble and were for sale --and so a foreign company bought them up probably without knowing how badly off they were, personnel wise and financially wise. Securitas is owned by an outfit in Sweden. Do you think they care about the US and Americans citizens here except as a source of income? Really?

I would like to hear what Michelle has to say after 20 years in the private security business, especially if she had to work in the sewers of Austin,Texas private security.

Not all females are considered trash in the security field!

AUTHOR: Michelle - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 10, 2007

Dear Helene:

I understand that you may have had a rough experience in the security field due to being female but there are those of us that have found it to be very profitable and definately enjoyable. I've been in the security field for some time now and have had absolutely no problems dealing with fellow employees (who are all male) or with the local authorities. Most of it is just a matter of how you handle yourself. If you know your job and react in a professional manner, the likelihood of problems severely decreases. Those that want the easy money without putting in the hard work or want a break just because they're female, I agree, are in the wrong line of work.

I have lived in Texas for all but about 5 years of my life so there's no misunderstanding that the experiences I'm referring to were based in Texas. Yes, there are some places that still have the "Good Ol' Boy" attitude and prefer to deal with male officers but it is not difficult to overcome this when you do your job properly. I'm not trying to discount your experience but I also feel that there's no reason to consistently say that women have no place in this field.

Women Are Scum to Most Texas Private Security Companies

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 09, 2007

I am sure in some Northeastern states with a history of labor union protection that maybe women are treated a lot better.

We have a history of Deep South Backwoods paternalism and machismo here in Texas.

If I had been a man, with my training, experience and education, I would probably have been a chief of police by now.

Sure, I worked the SAME hours, SAME hazardous and often extremely dangerous armed posts, got SHOT AT the same and got the same pay that men did back in the 1980s in Dallas, TX and I loved my job. I was very good at it.

I had to leave Dallas because a raltive became ill and I was needed in Austin,TX. I miss Dallas but it has changed since I left and I don't think I could fit in anymore.

When I came to Austin,Texas which has more machismo values, I was harrassed, physically threatened, my patrol vehicles were routinely sabotagued ( good thing, I knew a lot about how to check the oil, power steering fluid, etc. and how to put the plugs back so they would fire in the proper sequence and how to change a tire on the patrol truck!) Constantly jacking with my patrol vehicle and my privately owned vehicle. Four pairs of headlights, three windhields and eight tires. Had to have the gas tank drained and new windshield wipers and three radio antennas installed!

VANDALISM BY MALE CO-WORKERS WHO DID NOT WANT SORRY W****s and B****** WORKING WITH THEM! PERIOD.

One of the worst harrassers was a hideous guy who was having an affair with one of the executives in the security company. He HATED women anyway and he felt threatened by one who could do a patrol officers' job. I suspect he was the one who shot at me several times while I was on patrol and had an extra set of keys ( illegally made) to all of the posts and left doors unlocked after I had locked them and tried to set me up instead of running his own patrol route, as they were called back then.

He ended up allegedly trying to kill a woman security officer and her daughter and got a prison sentence for it and can't ever be in private security again.

Right before I left that company, I filed an EEOC complaint and of course BECAUSE IT WAS TEXAS, NOTHING WAS EVER DONE to help me directly...because contract security officers in general are disposable trash in Texas and women are at lowest of the low. The only time women security officers had ANY worth was when the US government was enforcing EEOC hiring standards which haven't been enforced since BUSH I was President. Clinton talked but we all know where he thought women should be --knee pads, anybody? He DID nothing concerning EEOC. And Bush II is much the same, if not much worse!

That EEOC complaint made the ( expletive)executive of the security company mad at me because it eventually got his boyfriend's charges enhanced as proof that he did not like women and so now, the excecutive is STILL giving me job references from HELL!

From there, I went to another company that was run by, you guessed it, two ( expletive deleted) "boyz" unbeknowest to me. They had to have women officers for EEOC purposes but as soon as they could circumvent that rule, they found all sorts of harrassment, etc. to get rid of me... And wouldn't you know, they were the first two (expletive deleted)s in the topless and strip clubs... it didn't take me long to see that cute young white guys with NO security experience who worked there were being promoted over everyone --especially women -- who did have actual experience too.One woman employee actually lost her home because they lied about the money they were going to pay her.

Let me tell you these bozos could come up with some GREAT JOB REFERENCES FROM HELL TOO!

And I could go on and on about how women security officers are treated here.

It was so bad, that whenever private security companies were running newspaper advertisements in the paper, they had to have a disclaimer saying "Women encouraged to apply" but now that the Bushes have been in office, WOMEN ARE SCUM AGAIN --at least, as far as priavte security goes.

WOMEN ARE NOT WANTED OR NEEDED IN PRIVATE SECURITY OR LAW ENFORCEMENT in Texas. Corrections officers are another story and they HAVE to have female jailers for the female inmates. Judicial branch, law enforcement branch and corrections branch are what constitutes the Texas Criminal Justice system...

I think it is interesting that the MEN on this RIP-OFF REPORT post seem to feel there is no discrimination against WOMEN --I looked to see where you all came from and maybe you all are more enlightened where you live. NONE of you appear to be from Texas.

But I imagine it would be extremely hard for you to relate to something that you have never experienced personally.

Females are not always treated unfair

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 30, 2007

I just want to post a response to the assumption that all contract security companies discrimate against female employees.

You are right, females work for the same pay, the same hours and the same risks, and with our company sometimes at more risk than some of the male officers.

I have had a wonderful experience with female officers. I have found that a lot of them I would rather have behind me during an incident than some male officers.

I just wish people would stop linking all security companies to the National companies because there are some out there that are fair and equal.

Thank you

#6 UPDATE Employee

Recruiter

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 11, 2006

I'm shocked and suprised that this happened to you. I have worked for Securitas for the last 10 months and I have also worked with other security companies. I have only experienced positive things with Securitas with the exception of certain employees at certain locations. I would not blame any of their behaviors on the company in general. I've had the same types of challenges with co-workers and managers in many other fields (sales, human services, food industry). I experienced a terrible situation working internal security (not Securitas) at a mall and the manager there was very ill equipped to handle the situation. The mall management apoligized, told me I was welcome to return and offered me severance allowance if I wanted to leave. I finally realized that their are people like this in any industry. Everyone reacts differently to pressure and the field of security has been under a lot of pressure lately due to rapid expansion of services and global unrest. If those individuals were out of line in their behavior you should always write down what they said, and demand to speak with the HR Manager to remedy the situation. If there are other complaints about that branch manager then he may be either demoted or removed. There are always personality conflicts at work to some degree and everyone should be afforded respect at all times. At the same time, Securitas itself is relatively new to the US (since 1999) and took on the management from Burns and Pinkerton. Those managers may still be operating in some militant-type of behaviors. Securitas offers sensitivity training to its management which may or may not be mandatory in other areas. I am not denying that what happened to you didn't happen, but I think you should realize that the experience is not at all a standard for Securitas. The manager that berated you might have been ex-military, old school security, or ex-law enforcement and treated you inappropriately and if you got the HR department involved, I'm sure that your situation would not have been in vain. Also, roughly 40% of our workforce here in New Jersey are women. Women seem to handle the corporate environments quite well and clients seem very happy with this as well. I think the old idea of what a security officer should be like is giving way to those with the best customer service skills.

DO NOT BE FEMALE AND WORK FOR PRIVATE SECURITY ANYWHERE

AUTHOR: Helene - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 23, 2005

Gone are the good old days when women were protected against discrimination because of their gender by federal regulations. Here in Austin, Texas, what this dear lady described is standard operating procedure no matter what RACE, ETHNICITY, RELIGION, COLOR or AGE you are!

We take the same risks that the male security officers do, we work for the same pay that they do but even when we do a good job and the client likes us AL THE WHILE THE COMPANY IS PLOTTING TO HARRASS US AND GET RID OF US!

That is just how it is in private contract security and just remember that SECURITAS used to be BURNS ( and American Protective Service and Pinkerton, etc. & etc.)!

AND I THOUGHT PRIVATE CONTRACT SECURITY COMPANIES WERE BAD IN AUSTIN,TEXAS!!!!!!

I used to work for Burns and with the exception of Wackenhut and Pinkerton, I have NEVER seen a company so anti-lady employees. Like I said, I have 20 years of experience but it was a bitter, hard-fought 20 years of experience and not a dime to show for it. Just a lot of HORRIBLE memories...

If I were you, ma'am and they haven't made up something about you yet, I would get a Pell Grant and go back to school on a work-study program also and get into the medical field.

GET OUT OF SECURITY BEFORE THEY RUIN YOUR LIFE!
I FOUND OUT ALMOST TOO LATE!

You have rights!!! I suggest you treat this matter as sexual harassment and discrimination.

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 08, 2005

You have rights. Keep a journal of everything that happens at work just as you are doing your daily report but only private. When you feel you have enough of the abuse. Your journal will hold in court very strong. That is probably why they sent you to a secluded post to keep you from complaining or being harassed. Good luck

get out while you can....

AUTHOR: Nick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 07, 2005

Hello Crystal,
If you are still working for Securitas, quit and find something else. I was put through hell with them in the last few months I worked for them. (see my report--Securitas, Duluth, MN)

It doesn't surprise me one bit the way you were treated. I heard ALL the branch offices are corrupt everywhere, which doesn't make corporate offices sound very good either.

I will be homeless soon thanks to Securitas ruining everything. I can't even get a job interview despite trying to prove myself worthy of consideration.

Tell everyone you can not to work for Securitas; that's what I'm doing. If you know of anyone with a class-action lawsuit against Securitas, let me know.

I hope you can find something else (if you haven't already).

Take care and best wishes.
