The Select Comfort mattress is not for everyone. We bought the one with dual chambers and two controls. My husband loves his. I hate mine. What they don't tell you and you really don't know until you have had chance to try it out for awhile, is that the firmness setting one one side greatly influences the comfort on the other side. My husband has his set to about 35, and I prefer mine about 60. What is the result? It sags in the middle because his side is softer, and I am left hanging onto my side of the mattress in order not to roll into the crevice. The position you normally sleep in also effects the comfort. My husband sleeps on his back, and the Select Comfort seems to cradle him quite well.

I sleep on my right side and if I deflate my side to where it "might" be comfortable, I find quickly that it's not.....because it's an air mattress and it sags in the middle, so I am left with my feet and head higher than my body and bent in an uncomfortable position. So, I inflate it back to about 60 and continue clinging to the side of the bed. I have not had a good night's rest since we bought this stupid thing! Will we keep it? Probably. Like I said, my husband loves it, and he's the one that has to get up in the morning and go to work. I just wish Select Comfort had been a bit more up front about the pitfalls of their product.

I have the same problem too!

AUTHOR: Catherine L. - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 01, 2009

I just called select comfort customer service and explained the same issue and in addition is lumpy where I sleep.  For the Lumpyness...they suggested that I take off the pillowtop and shake it out and if that doesn't work, I can buy another one.  So while I was on the phone I asked how much a new pillowtop would cost and I nearly fell off my chair! 75% of what I paid for the whole set.  For a mattress that makes me feel like I'm sleeping in a tree, lumpy and about to roll off!  I have actually thrown out my back with the indent in the middle of the bed.  I suffered with this issue becuase I thought it was me.  I'm so glad I'm not the only one.  I have had my bed for 8 years and it was okay when I first bought it but has been like this for probably the past 3 years....20 year warranty, I think not!  I am not one to waste time and energy on arguing with companys but wanted to post my experience for those who research expensive purchases, I should have.  I will just save the inflatable chambers for guest sleepovers and buy traditional mattresses in the future. And I have a boxspring that will last through a war.

I have the same problem

AUTHOR: Stile - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 26, 2006

My wife and I have the same bed, and we have the same problem. I find periodically that I have to open up the pillowtop and push the air chambers so that they're flush together in the middle. This helps, but it's only a temporary solution.

A longer term solution would be to build a matress cabinet similar to a waterbed so that the mattress edge is directly against a solid wood collar. That would prevent the chambers from sliding apart.
