This is a prime example of what terrible customer service is. I hired Select Maids to clean a house that I am taking over, ie moving into. This occurred on Friday, Sept.12, 2003. I just remodeled the house and specifically told the owner, Chay Young, that this was the case and I expect dusting of walls, fans, etc. When I came home from work on this day, I discovered that the cleaning people DID NOT finish what they were supposed to and took my check that was left for them ($138). They did not clean half of the kitchen and left cobwebs on walls where it was evident that they did even attempt to clean it. It was too late to call since they were already closed. I called the next day and no one answered their phones.

I was forced to call on Monday and spoke to Chay. I explained the situation to him and he told me that he will speak to his workers and find out what had happened. He said he would call back. He never did. So I wrote him an email (on Oct.1, 2 weeks later) regarding his failure to follow through. The following is the chain email that was exchanged between him and I:

Me to Select Maids:

Chay,

I've been waiting for you to call me back regarding the service your company provided for me. I explained to you (on Sept. 15, 2003) that they did not clean all the areas that they were supposed to and you were going to check to see what happened. I have not heard back from you at all.

This complaint should have been handled better by you. I will not be using your services for any reason at all in the future. I have told everyone that I know about the situation and they will not be using your services neither. I am definitely searching for another company to come clean what your people did not and will request regular cleaning from these other companies.

You have definitely lost a customer and many potential customers.

Select Maids to me:

First of all your home has been treated and a garbage dump for so long your lucky that they got as far as they did. I would not accept a costumer that treats there khome in such a manner. You going to a different company would be the rise of my success.

Since this last email, I haven't heard back from this idiot. I have forwarded this email to EVERYONE I know. This guy has a guarantee on his site: "100% Satisfaction Guarantee. If your not satisfied will re Clean your home Free!" That is certainly not the case as you all can see in the previous email exchanges. That's false advertising obviously. I have sent this into the BBB so I may try and get my money back.

My friends and I are boycotting Select Maids--all chains because of this guy. Please don't waste your money or time on this company.

...I have also found out he recently had a 'house fire', and of course, it's covered by insurance. He's talking about this on some gaming site. Supposedly electrical or some such thing, but who really knows. It's not tough to short out wiring. But he does seem to have a very high number of accidents, etc, always covered by insurance.

Chay Young?

Is this Chay F. Young? It's an unusual first name, and if it's who I think it is, he's also allegedly been a pimp, a dealer, and has done time for indecent liberties with a minor. Check California, and even Washington State legal records. You might have a better idea of whom you are dealing with. If it's the Chay Young I'm familiar with, he's bad news, and a scam artist from way back. There could be a coincidence, but it would be a slim chance of that occuring. But the 'rebuttals' do sound like him. Crude, illiterate. Also, see if you can check with insurance clearinghouses, or individual companies. If it is the Chay Young I'm thinking of, it'll be a serious eye-opener! Notice I use 'allegedly', in case it's somehow a different Chay Young. Therefore, it should deflect any liabilities.

Nancy, this is not true. I don't know why he even tried to lie to you about it. Everything in my posting is EXACTLY as it happened. He never called me back, let alone, came back to see if I'm satisfied.

From the very beginning, I requested "dusting" of walls, not "washing" of walls. Proves how incompetent he is. He didn't finish what he quoted me for and then cashed the check and of course insulted me in those emails. As you can see, that's the whole point. He still doesn't get it if he's calling me "a company nightmare". I don't recall me ever saying they did a bad job, but that they never FINISHED the job.

Anyhow, it's totally proven that he is a complete liar. Like I mentioned in my most recent posting, I received a 10% discount coupon from Select Maids and the envelope said "Under New Management" and a different address. Obviously that's not the case because "Chay" wrote you back. How interesting the lies continues..........

I need confirmation

Hi Krystal,

I need confirmation on something. I stumbled upon the Select Maids website, while I was searching for a cleaning company. I emailed them for an estimate and a "Jackie" wrote back. And then I ran across your posting and emailed them back regarding your comments. Then a "Chay" wrote this back to me:

This is Chay we have had 2 complaints in 3 years that is amazing! If you had read into it you would of saw the following

1) Business licenses in the city of Westminster, CA License # 054507 under the name Service Finder & Select Maids.

2) Krystal had lied about moving in or moving out to save on her cost of cleaning. The complaint was about things Select Maids did not agree to clean as they were part of a move out cleaning and did not pay for a move out cleaning.

3) Kathy - Tustin, California Is not in are data base. Lisa Mikhail is the only Lisa in Huntington Beach. That is in are data base that does not have regular service that was a cost of $60. And it was a CANCLED job with no cancel notice.

4) Krystal nice to see you have some friends to type lies into here. Or are you the one typing? Because you have every one here has the same type. (Cussing and Over use of these symbols!!! ???

Also as well she wanted them to wash here walls. I had sent people back and also came myself to see the place everything was fine but we can't make an old house look new. She was a company nightmare.

IS THIS TRUE? DID HE MAKE ATTEMPTS TO GO BACK? OR DID HE EVEN GO BACK?

Hey everyone....I'm not sure if it is true but I think this loser Chay is out of business. I received a coupon in the mail for a discount for their services and it states that Select Maids is under new management......hmmm......what does everyone think?

Thanks for posting this Krystal. I am currently in the market for a cleaning company because my husband and I just purchased a home and I need help cleaning it before we move in. My family and friends have given me referrals for some companies but I want to do a little more research before I decide.

Thanks to this, I'll cross that company off my list. It's amazing that some companies exist, wit an owner like that. I might just have to use those referrals since it's "safer". If you like, I can post the info here after I use them and if I'm happy with the company. Take care!

1) Hahahah funny!!! You must have recently obtained a license because when I called the City of Westminster, silly man, you didn't have one on file with the city, in any name similar to Select Maids. But of course you'll reply that I made that up to...so sad so sad.

Peter, Peter, Peter.......are you truly stupid?? Maid services or cleaning companies or whatever the hell you want to call these "companies" are there to CLEAN your d**n house. It doesn't matter if Krystal's house was a freakin trash landfill, Select Maids was hired to CLEAN!!!!!! That's what they do for a freakin living!!!! CLEAN!!!!!!!! If all of our houses were CLEAN already, maid services wouldn't exist, now would they??

Now that we got that straight, (do you understand yet or am I going too fast for you??) none of Krystal's comments mention anything about how poorly they CLEANED, but merely that they DID NOT finish the job. Do you know how to read Peter? Obviously not. She did not complain about the job itself. This company took her money and DID NOT finish what they were supposed to. So why are you defending this idiot?? You must be as stupid as he is.

Krystal, don't let STUPID people get to you. I was blown away for the idiotic comments made by this Chay Young character and then blown away again by more thoughtless remarks from this sad Peter guy from Alabama.

As we all know (the smart people, anyway), a business is in business for the mere fact of serving customers. You, Peter, must not know what excellent customer service means so I certainly hope you do not own a business yourself. May I ask why you are defending an inconsiderate owner who treats his customers like crap and does not know how to do his job properly????

You must be intellectually challenged because you have this whole situation reversed. Every intelligent person that has read this posting agrees that Krystal was NOT rude in any manner whatsoever. She gave that idiot 2 weeks to return a phonecall!!! Most of us would have given him a few days. If you read this whole story correctly, you would of understood that Select Maids was at fault from the very beginning, did not even attempt to resolve the situation, insulted her in emails, and of course cashed the check. Peter, you must be one pathetic person. How are you going to come on this site and criticize the customer (in this case Krystal) for something that EVERY person out there would do?? Like her, many people do not have the time or the patience to do all that you have suggested. C'mon....call a maid service (who does not have a business license by the way) 3 times in a 2 week period?? If this were a legit company (like Gap, for instance)then everyone should do what you suggested. Seriously, wake up.

It's bad enough that they took her money AND did not finish their job, but then afterwards, insult her, rather than to TRY to resolve the problem. This is clearly Select Maid's fault, you Peter, did not read very well. No one in their right state of mind, would defend this idiot.

Krystal, I hope you get your money back and I will surely inform everyone that I know about this situation. Good Luck!

Have you experieniced the inexpertise of Select Maids, Orange County? I do not know "Krystal", whom you wrote, but I do know Chay and his crew.
I also had a unpleasant experience with his Company. YOU KNOW NOT OF WHICH YOU SPEAK. Chay, with whom I have dealt, does not have the sense of a donkey. He has absolutley no RIGHT to be running a business! He is untruthful, unethical and rude. Not to mention unpersonable and unprofessional. Is he a friend of yours? WHY are you defending him?

My OWN experience with his company was very simular to "Krystal's". I felt he stole my money and is happily selling lies. NOT service. What could honey do for this situation? I tried it and got only frustration and more lies. I did not get my small, 600 sq ft. Apt cleaned, just my money stolen. I do not live like a pig.... it was a small job, very over priced. Money wasted! I HAD to re-clean it. My money was not refunded!
I'm really wondering what is YOUR interest in this? I cannot find another Select Maids in the USA. Are you just a simple, bored, SORRY person surfing the internet all day? OR maybe you have a similar business.... this seems incomprehensible to me. And just what kind of HONEY do you use?

First of all, if you do not have "time" to wait for a return phone call, then why bothering making a complaint in the first place?! In case you don't realize, your time constraints are in no way Chay's responsibility. The only thing he can do is get back to you as soon as HE can.

Your email WAS indeed rude. You flat-out TELL him how to handle the situation, and make immature threats. What business owner would want to listen to that?! Rather than help you, he was likely laughing his way to the bank as he cashed your check.

Get over it! Perhaps if you were not so snappy and insulting in your responses, and did not live in such a pigsty, it would be much easier to resolve such situations.

Thanks Peter for your advice. But frankly, I don't have the time or the energy to be calling a maid service 3 times afterwards and following up with a certified letter. I have other important events going on right now (one of those things involves remodeling my house).

I gave him the benefit of the doubt: that he will call me back. I did not "bug" him for 2 weeks before I wrote that first email. All he had to do was call me back in the beginning and give a reason why the job was not finished. I would of been happy with just a response itself. Not insults in an email.

So I really don't know if you read all those emails correctly but it was obvious the owner of Select Maids was the rude and disrespectful one in this situation. There are no name callings from my emails, all from him.

It sounds to me like you flew off the proverbial handle after Chay did not call you back IMMEDIATELY after your ONE and ONLY phone call. You followed up, not with a polite, cordial phone call, but with a high-strung, threatening email. Why would anyone want to do anything for a customer who has such a negative attitude? I sure wouldn't want anything to do with such a person ...

My suggestion to you and everyone is this: When having difficulties with a company not returning your phone calls, give them the benefit of the doubt, and leave at least three messages. Document the date and time you left each one. Remain calm and friendly - you will catch more flies with HONEY than with VINEGAR! If you still do not get the desired results, follow up with a certified letter. Keep a copy of the letter, along with proof of delivery/signature. If that still does not work, consider small claims court. You will have sufficient documentation at this point to help your case.

Good luck Krystal, and remember - avoid at all costs that vinegary diarrhea that so readily flows from your mouth!

Select Maids, Westminster, No Business License

Hello folks!

I have just found out that this company does not have a business license to operate. The owner, Chay Young, tells me verbally that his company is licensed and his employees are insured. This is also on the website. But apparently this is not the case. I called both City of Westminster and City of Garden Grove and this guy does not have a license to operate. I will try to contact Consumer Affairs regarding this issue.
