We, several ex-Sequoia Financial Services employees, thought it prudent to post on the internet some of the underhanded ways we were treated while working for Roy C. du Plessis at Sequoia Financial Services in Glendale, CA. This is a collection agency that, when first hired, appears to treat its employees well. The turnover is extremely high, as they tend to hire young people who will jump when asked, and then ask "how high?" Once you have been there a while, you start to see how things are done. It is completely a company that uses the principle of "do what I say, not what I do...."

We have heard of people being fired for filing Workers Compensation claims, or for filing for disability. NO ONE ever gets unemployment from them as they fight tooth and nail even when it is not applicable. Some people we know, still don't even know the reason they were fired.

Most people who actually have a mind of their own, make it up the ladder in a short amount of time. But, once you understand how things work around there, and if you are not a "yes man", you do not last long.

Then, when you are fired, you are TOLD not to tell anyone in the company about what happened to you and anyone in your department that may know you have been terminated is also counciled to keep silent.

Clients are told that Sequoia is capable of ANY criteria (which they are not, until they actually get the account, and then scramble to get their ducks in a row).

Maybe there are some companies left where the CEO can fire you on a whim, but in this day of big business and corporate oversight, it can't possibly last long if they intend to continue growing.

Bottom line is it is an awful feeling knowing that if the CEO happens to be constipated that day, you could be fired!

If they treat their employees badly, why would anyone want to do business with them?

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Retraction and apology for Report#276274 dated 9/27/07 and 9/28/07

AUTHOR: Carl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I wish to apologize for all the statements I made about Sequoia Financial Services as to their treatment of employees, bad business practices, and the ethics of their C.E.O. Roy C. du Plessis. All of those derogatory comments and statements were false and untrue starting with the first paragraph when I claimed to represent several ex-Sequoia employees who thought it prudent to post those comments on the internet. The comments quoted were mine alone and no other ex-employees were involved. In fact, I had just been terminated for good cause, was in a bad emotional state and felt compelled to exact revenge. In truth, Sequoia was a good place to work. All of their employees including myself were treated fairly and equally and the C.E.O. was a reasonable and decent person who never discriminated against anyone, and never conducted prayer meetings at work or otherwise attempted to impose his religious beliefs on me or any of the other employees.

I regret having spread these false rumors and statements on the internet and sincerely wish that I could have the Reports of 9/27/07 and 9/28/2007.deleted to avoid further harm to Sequoia.

Sincerely,
Carl Roth
