There is a contractor in the Dallas / Fort Worth area scamming hundreds of thousands of dollars in a roofing cam. His name is Shawn Jerry Tatum, otherwise known as Jerry Shawn Tatum, of Tatum Contractors.

In most cases he convinced homeowners to sign over their insurance checks to him, some in excess of $20K, and was never heard from again. Many of these families are elderly and on fixed incomes, and could not afford to replace a roof without the insurance funds. Attempts to contact Tatum after turning over the money went unanswered or were replied to by Tatum with taunts and vulgar language. In multiple cases Tatum forged homeowner signatures on checks, and has been arrested on multiple counts.

There are a few cases where Tatum did complete the roofing job, but those homeowners are now facing liens by sub-contractors who were never paid by Tatum. In most cases Tatum bounced ten's of thousands of dollars in checks to sub-contractors.

Tatum is attempting to file for bankruptcy protection, but there is a large group attempting to appeal to the trustee of the bankruptcy court to dismiss the bankruptcy due to fraud. The first hearing was today and group of over 40 victims showed up to protest. Tatum never showed and the trustee was very willing to hear their issues.

Tatum is the worst kind of person and gives all honest contractors a bad reputation. He's the type who prey's on hard working families.
