Shellpoint Mortgage Resurgent Mrotgage Servicing Shellpoint Mortgage attempted to extort money from me for a Fraudulent debt Greenville South Carolina

First be aware that I do not and never had a mortgage or loan with Shellpoint Mortgage. I do not have any outstanding debts on any prior loan or mortgage. 

A few months ago I received a letter that appeared very strange and akin to one you might receive from a 'needy banker in Africa' thru email.  The letter sent by a Shellpoint mortgage simply stated I owed several thousand dollars and had a reference number. The letter had arrived unsealed with no other facts attached to the supposed outstanding debt. I ignored it as an obvious attempt to extort money from me. 

I learned just this week that Shellpoint Mortgage is now damaging my credit report, appearing as a overdue debt for a vast sum. I immediately called them and verified that they do indeed have my social security number but, when pressed, they would not give me any other information about this supposed outstanding debt. Whoever heard of a mortgage company not willing to discuss a debt with a client?! Even though It is fales I'd hoped we could clear things up. They would not discuss with me because they said my address did not match up with what they had on file. They suggested I write a letter requesting information. The woman implied that I must have an old loan that they purchased and are now pursuing collection of that amount. I do not. Still she refused to give me information to help me understand why this is happening. 

 As a result of Shellpoint Mortgage's Fraudulent credit reporting and extortion attempt, my credit is damaged. Shellpoint knows the credit bureaus have enough to deal with so they use the nasty tactic of reporting false debts in order to strong arm victims into paying them money.  I intend to pursue this matter to the legal full extent.
