Silk Alterations They Ruined my Wedding Dress Westminster California

As a favor to us, my mother-in-law took my designer wedding gown to be dry cleaned while my husband and I went on our honeymoon. She brought the gown to the cleaners and specifically asked if they would be able to dry clean the gown. The owner took the gown and kept it in-store to verify the cleaning instructions on the inside tags of the dress. The owner called my mother-in-law back and said that she would be able dry clean the gown but at an additional fee. The owner's reasoning for more money was because the dress had lots of bead work and embroidery which made sense to us (so we thought they knew what their doing). Keep in mind that they are supposed to be a silk specialist.
My mother-in-law went to pick up the wedding gown and did not think twice to check their work as they were recommended by a family member. We trusted that if anything went wrong they would let us know but instead the owner triple-bagged the dress as a diversion from the damage they had done to this gown. After our honeymoon, my mother-in-law bought the dress to our house in VA. We immediately noticed the damage and were furious. The gown was completely ruined. The pick-up style gown that once bared layers and layers of folds in the gown were completely gone. The gown looked as though someone just threw it in a washing machine. The dutchess silk was dull and no longer had luster and the coloring had changed from ivory to having a slight grey tint. All the silk surrounding the embroidery had shrunken and was now puckered/wrinkly looking. There were streaks all over the gown either from the chemicals or the press that had literally altered the chemistry of the material.
We called the cleaners to ask for our money back and the cost of the damaged gown. The owner said that once the dress is out of the store they were no longer responsible for the damage to the dress. Even though it was obvious that they had damage had occurred in their hands and they did not want to take full responsibility for it. They deceived my mother, charged her the full cleaning fee and acted like nothing had happened. They knew my family was from out of town and just wanted to make money from the transaction.
They didn't care that this was someone's wedding dress and had sentimental value, to them, it was just another garment. For being a silk specialist, I thought they would know how to properly clean a silk wedding gown. The tags on the inside even had special red, bold print instructions indicating that the fabric should not be steamed on high heat, but steamed on low dry heat or it will damage the beading and fabric. How did they miss or ignore the directions right in front of their eyes? Their service was poor and they did not know how to handle the situationthey just brushed it offhung up on my mother-in-law and said, I don't care; it's not my problem anymore.
