On Sunday Oct. 23rd I took Loki (my 1 yr old dog, a Kelpie) to Silver Creek Animal Clinic for extraction of porcupine quills that Loki attracted to his left flank the same day on a mountain hike. I was relieved they were open on a Sunday and they agreed to see him immediately. Half an hour and $144 later I got Loki back. The next 24 hours he was slowly coming out of sedation but I could see that he was still acting as if uncomfortable especially on his left flank.

Monday afternoon as he was sitting next to me on the couch I saw him biting at something on his left flank and discovered he had at least one quill left. I called Silver Creek Animal Clinic to let them know. It was 5 pm and they said they could see him early next morning against an extra emergency charge on top of the new extraction charge. I let them know I wasn't going to pay either as I was not buying any new services. I just wanted them to complete what they had failed to finish the prior day. I was told to hold as they needed to talk to the vet. 50 min later they call me that they will charge sedation and some other items. I told them I was surprised and disappointed they did not have the professionalism to take responsibility for their work. They sure were giving the lie to their slogan "we treat your pet like family".

I really feel that me not charging them for the needless additional 24 hours of pain and suffering imposed on my dog because they were not thorough enough, my additional wasted time going back and forth to the clinic and the time waiting there was a fantastic deal for them. Unfortunately they were not ready to even just do their part. Needless to say they are no longer our vets as we found out there was a better alternative locally.

The truth about How Business works

AUTHOR: Silver Creek Vet - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 26, 2016

First of all let me say we are sorry that we missed any quills whern treating Loki last Sunday. It was by no means intentiontional. No one porcupine quill problem is the same however, and so we cannot promise any client, friend, family or otherwise, that there will not be additional charges to the intitial quill extraction. From the sounds of it, we probably would not have subjected you to any additional charges, but there was no way for us to know that from talking to you over the phone. Often times quills are deeply embedded under the skin and take extensive surgical time to remove. It is just not good business practice (no matter what business you are in) to make cost promises before you know for sure what the problem is.

Again, we are sorry for the misuunderstanding and most of all hope that Loki has recieved the medical attention that he needs.

Funny....

Whats funny is that if this was YOUR business YOU would be complaining about yourself!! It IS about money because people do these jobs TO SUPPORT THIER FAMILIES!!!! Ok we get it, they missed a quill. But its STILL EXTRA WORK!!!! You cannot expect them to give YOU what will amount to FREE SERVICE!!! They would have charged you for the quill removal anyways. I find it INCREDIBLY irresponsible of YOU to let your animal wander freely WITHOUT A LEESH!!! I guess we can see HOW important your animal is to YOU when YOU let it roam around freely enough to confront a porkupine AND get injured. YOU are WHINING about having to pay for YOUR mistake and YOU assume that YOU shouldnt have to afford to pay for it because they didnt get it the first time. Thankfully YOUR knowledge of small animal biology is limited or YOU would know that sometimes the swelling is so bad that they may NOT have been able to remove it at that time or the swelling was so bad that they didnt see it. Either way there is STILL going to be some form of charge for SERVICES RENDERED!!!! If YOU do not wish to pay for it then LEARN TO DO IT YOURSELF! For if YOU let your animal run around in the wilderness WITHOUT A LEESH then YOU can expect that YOU are going to have to continue to pay for MORE medical expenses. Typical mouth breather American mentality. Its ONLY unfair when it concerns YOU!!! Screwing a Vets office over means NOTHING to YOU but when its YOU its a capitol offense.
