Simply Moving, Inc. moving scam Glen Burnie Maryland

My wife sought many moving estimates. She got a competitive estimate for $300 to move one room of furniture for half-a-mile from Simply Moving, Inc. The owner of the business Tom McJilton asked her if she needed any packing, and she responded that we did not want packing.

On the day of the move, my wife was taking care of our 2 month old son when the movers asked her to sign a blank form with packing materials and outrageous prices on the form. She stated that she did not want any packing done and signed the form.

The movers then used their materials against our wishes (example, wardrobe box = $45) even though we had plenty of materials on hand AND stated that we did not want any packing done.

They then loaded the materials in the truck. When they got to our new home half a mile away, they showed my wife the blank packing form with $800 of charges written in -- and claimed that her signature expressed her agreement to pay those charges. They said that they would not let our possessions (a couch, a bed, 5 boxes and a small TV) if she did not agree to pay the extra $800.

I immediately called the owner Tom McJilton to complain. During our conversation, he said to me that he could not have gotten this job if he had advertised his "true" price -- and that this was the way he operated. (He knocked down his rip-off price to a lower, still rip-off price of $500.)

This outfit was thoroughly dishonest and even admitted it in a phone conversation. (In a later email, he denied saying what he said.)

The BBB later took their word for everything and the AG of Maryland couldn't do anything.

Do NOT trust Simply Moving with ANY of your moving needs. You will regret it.
