I called last week to negotiate my renewal fot SiriusXM satellite programming.  We could not agree on a figure and I told the rep that it had expired anyway and they should turn it off.  The representative told me I would have to pay $15.26 because they had automatically renewed it.  I NEVER agreed to any automatic renewal and, in fact, cancelled my service with them once before over the very same set of conditions.  Such practices are illegal and constitute a really bad business practice.  I will never again do business with these people,  nor will I pay     any sum of money that I do not owe.

Automatic renewal of contracts

AUTHOR: Wayne - ()

POSTED: Monday, December 09, 2013

You are factually correct as of this writing, except that I DID take exception to the automatic renewal clause.  BTW-Sirius did cancel the due bill and closed out my account after a brief discussion.

Also, when the next Alabama legslative session begins at noon on January 14th, 2014 legislation to address this problem will be on the agenda.  I believe it will pass overwhelmingly, as it is very bad business.  I own two small businesses and the idea of renewing contracts like these without even sending a notice is offensive to my sense of values and is something only a Lawyer would do.

I found this on their website under terms of service and agreement...

Your Subscription may automatically renew under this Agreement. Your Subscription will continue for the length of the initial term you select on your plan and at the end of your prepaid Subscription, it will automatically renew for additional prepaid periods of the same length unless you choose to cancel prior to that renewal, by calling us at 1-866-635-2349. Your account will automatically be charged (or you will be billed, as applicable) at the rates in effect at the time of renewal.

What does YOUR agreement with them say?

"Such practices are illegal and constitute a really bad business practice.  I will never again do business with these people,  nor will I pay     any sum of money that I do not owe."

What law are you citing to claim these practices are illegal?  The contract says otherwise and is very specific...guess you should have read it.  They will almost certainly send any monies owed them by you and not paid by you to collections.  Is it worth that?  Let us know how that works out for you.

No, I DON'T work for them or even use their service.
