Siteground.com tried to fruadulently take out $214.20 out of my bank card without my permission for a web hosting free site.  I cannot believe such a company is allowed to do business on the net and hope something can be done.

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back! HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO: Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E. According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days. If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges. Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent! DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get. And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state. Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth. If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form. CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here. Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action. And good luck Let us know how you do! "He somehow got my credit card information "

"He somehow got my credit card information " - the only way he could get your credit card information is if you gave it to him or you entered it online.

If you want truly free web hosting I recommend webs.com

The fact that you are a woman has nothing to do with it. he pulls this con on men and women without discrimination.

SiteGround Web hosting is a thief and a scam!!!  I had spoken to the owner, Levi,  before submitting my information to join their free web hosing at sitegroundwebhosting.com.  He tried to persuade me to go with a paid plan which i stated I was not looking for.  Levi, owner now two years later tries to cover his tracts claims that it was a customers error- That Is a total lie.  He somehow got my credit card information  and charged 214.20 to my account  which even if there was a error the fee so he claims here on ripoff is $6.95 which is a far cry from what he tried to rob from me of 214.20. So Mr Levi Bulgaria lie all you want I told you i would not tolerate your scam and thievery then now or forever.  The fact that I am a woman that you so called tried to create as a no value human being as you believe women to be will show you that American woman are  far advance than your intellect pea on brain.

Actually "Levi" is not an employee but the owner. The "company" and I use the term loosely is based in Bulgaria. Never give them your credit card they will bill the hell out of it and you will have great difficulty getting your money back. Look at all the complaints about Siteground on the internet. The best thing to do is do a chargeback with your bank. If your bank does not cooperate with the chargeback then threaten your bank to cancel your accounts with them. They should side with you not criminals in Bulgaria.

I would like to try to explain why this might have happened

AUTHOR: Levi - (Bulgaria)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 28, 2012

I am the customer care supervisor at SiteGround and a user of ours brought this article to my attention.

We do have promotional offers, and one of them was indeed for free hosting for 12 months. We have this shared hosting package provided for 3 different life cycles. 12, 24 and 36 months.

If you were to follow a promotional link to the order page you will eventually get to a drop down menu, where you can choose the period you wish to take the service for.

The one selected by default would be the free hosting package for 12 months, as long as you use the promo link to land on the order page. The options would be as follows:

12 months free hosting special
24 months $6.95 + free setup
36 months $5.95 + free setup

While I do not have any info on this specific person, I would presume that he chose the 3 year package by accident. There have been cases when a customer chooses the wrong service, and if we are contacted about it, we always make sure the matter is resolved in a fast and polite manner.

I firmly believe that no one can take money from you for a service you did not purchase. And I can not say for sure, what exactly happened in this case, however we have been on the market for 8 years now. This would not have lasted so long if we had shady business practice.

We love our customers, and they are happy with us. If you have something on your mind, then simply contact us. There is a live chat, a toll free number, a contact form, a facebook page, twitter account and mail addresses.

If you like to see an example of what I explained, then you can simply contact us and I will personally guide you and show you that the total of the sum is always displayed on each order, and after that you also have to confirm it. Mistakes do happen, we know that, bit we are also there for you to resolve any possible misunderstanding.
