In May 2013, I responded to an Ad on Craigs List (Tampa, FL) looking for work-at-home salespeople to sell a membership service for Skip the Brokers Fee.com/SkiptheBrokersFee.net.  Your job is to sell access to a web portal with apartment listings.  They required everyone to pay a $99 deposit that in my understanding was to cover for the extensive training that you would receive, and to show the company that you are serious about the job.  So, I paid the $99.

From the moment I paid the deposit, everything from there went downhill!   The lady that was supposedly my "recruiter" called me to ask me questions about the company's leads and the whereabouts of the Manager (Annette)..? Then I had to go back and forth with 2 people to get my training started and didn't officially have access to my email, phone ext. or verbal training with a Manager for over a week!  When I inquired about what was going on, I was basically shunned and told to wait or told that I was already given the information (when I had not received it!)  When I insisted on an explanation I was basically told that their "Legal Team" would accuse me of Slander and the  My thoughts were that this was a scam or maybe the company was just really unorganized..?!!?!

All this left a bad taste in my mouth, so I asked Management if I could please have my deposit back, as I did not think this is what I was looking for.  They basically said NO.  I was pretty upset and felt that it was a very bad business decision on their part but nevertheless decided to go ahead and give it another shot.  Apparently they would refund you the $99  if in 30 days if you made 2 membership sales for the company.

They suddenly quit sending me leads and and I was told by my Manager that "the leads just stopped coming in" and "there would be slow times"..  So I waited and few more days and finally contacted H.R. asking them what was going on.  They replied to me "we are confused we thought you were sick and for us not to contact you for 2 weeks please respond"...   Ummmmmm No.  They had me mixed up with someone else apparently but then sent me an email basically inquiring why I haven't done the training for the Advertising...?  And that apparently we were REQUIRED to post ads on Craigslist so to generate our own leads?  Once again they twisted everything around and had no clue what they were talking about.  They will tell you that they have over 50 sales reps and have never had a problem.  Either I'm completely nuts or something is just smacking me right in the face and I haven't caught on yet.

After I sent my resignation letter I received a response from Abigail Mirabella, Senior Manager, Skip The Brokers Fee Inc.  There seems to be about 5 different aliases coming from jobs@skipthebrokersfee.  Neverthless, she apologized for everything but still made it sound like I wasn't doing what I was supposed to be doing and she didnt' offer to give me back my deposit.  They also have my bank account information (for direct deposits..).   I feel a bit worried about that too.

For anyone who is considering working for this company, I'll let you decide based on my experience but please consider being forewarned.  There are many other opportunities available out there where you don't have to invest anything.

Misconception/Slander/Incompetence

AUTHOR: Skip The Brokers Fee Inc (Management) - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, April 17, 2015

Our business Skip the Brokers Fee was started in 2007 after the owner (myself)  was a broker in training in NYC, was being taught how to manipulate renters into paying large brokers fees.  The training consisted of making the renters believe that they wanted an apartment that they really didn't and getting them to sign the lease no matter what it took because that is when the broker company would cash in and get their enormous brokers fee of 15 to 20 percent of the annual rent.  So do the math, if you are renting an apartment in New York City and the monthly rent amount is for example $2,400.00 per month, the brokers fee would be anywhere from (2,400 x 12 =$28,800.00 x .15 = $4,320.00 to $5,760.00)

I was mortified at the lengths that the brokers would go to to rip these poor renters off.  I,  being of the Christian Faith was not comfortable with the practices of the brokers and no matter how big the paycheck, I refused to be dishonest with people in any way shape or form.

After quitting my job as a broker in training I came up with the brilliant idea of finding a way to put renters in direct contact with property managers by creating the website skipthebrokersfee.com

I worked from 7 am to 10 pm most days advertising, handling calls, assisting customers and it became extremely busy and too much for me to handle on my own.  Since I was and am in the business of helping others in some capacity, I thought I could make the opportunity available for people to do sales from home to earn a generous income from the small fee that we charge for a membership.  The sales agent actually got more than the company did for the sale, and an extensive training program was put together to assist them in being able to work from home and earn a good living while helping others.  I went through many good, fair, and bad independent contractors who took on this job and found myself wasting a lot of my valuable time in training people that were not disciplined enough to work without supervision from home, I therefore implemented the $99.00 training deposit that was fully refundable after just a couple of closed sales on memberships, and the guarantee of it being refundable was put in writing.

With the extensive training and assistance from myself and others, there would be no reason that anyone who was disciplined enough to follow instructions and do the work without supervision should not be able to accomplish those two sales within days of training.  I had absolutely no problem ever refunding a training deposit to those who earned it.  As for the person who has written this negative review, I can only assume that it was one of the people who could not follow simple instructions with very detailed reference materials as well as live support to do their job.  In the deposit agreement the sales person is given a full 30 days to make 2 sales for a full refund of their deposit, as well as being paid $50.00 on each and ever $99.00 Sale with nothing held back ever.  It is also explained prior to taking that deposit for traiining that if a person can not make 3 sales in 30 days, then they are in the wrong business, because this truly is a product that sells itself.

Renters do not want to spend thousands of dollars on brokers, they are already in the market for an apartment and they have already made contact with us in their search.

I personally did not earn an income and if I did it was very minimal due to the cost of the website, phone system, and I spent a lot of time supporting the good sales people that had the drive to succeed and actually did not mind putting in the work and time that it took to be successful.  I managed their payroll, set up their phone lines, supported their training, and did many follow ups to assist anyone that was having any difficulties.

Our company grew faster than I could keep up with it and I then had to recruit Managers and Recruiters to take some of the heavy work load off of me after suffering a heart attack in 2009 at age 40.

There have been hundreds of work at home reps, managers, sales people, advertisers, recruiters throughout the years and this is the first complaint that someone has brought to my attention.  Had I known that this complaint existed earlier I would have responded at that time.

I am sorry that this person had what they feel to be an unfair experience, but this job is not for everyone, and I have refunded many deposits to those who were just really not cut out for the sales job or training, just out of kindness.

Please know that I stand behind all of the decisions that I have made as a small business and wish nothing but to help others in any way that I can.

Im sorry that there is a bad review out there maybe 2 out of hundreds of people, but there is always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch.

I pray for this person to find something that they can excel and be successful at and enjoy working with those who have stuck with us through the years.

I had nearly the same experience as above. This is a scam running on Craigslist. Depending on what day it is, the "Owner" will have a different name. It is being run out of Hudson, FL. I know that much. If you lost $99.99 to this scam, contact your bank to reverse the charges. Even though you signed a letter saying you would not do this, the bsnk will not accept the letter and WILL reverse it. Also, please contact your state attorney general. This is a KNOWN SCAM!!!!!
