Junk debts, liens, government contracts, this company took us to court for a junk debt that they never proved they legally owned. Yet judge ruled in their favor. They immediately put a lien on one of our properties that was for sale. Even though we have no record of original debt, we had to have our broker go after them & pay them something (amt which changed over several days) in order to proceed with sale. Again-the amount was less than 3k, & we were never given documentation of the junk debt this "law firm" purchased.
It appears that this "law firm" is made up of some attorneys who couldn't "make it" in the real legal world, so they purchase small junk debts & aggressively pursue them. We had no knowledge of this debt, asked for proof that it was legit, & proof of how this collection firm acquired it legally-& were given none of these things. It shocked us when the judge ruled in their favor (but yet subtracted all legal costs). We later found out that they have a local govt collection contracts. Hmmmm. Once judge rules in their favor, they may proceed to put liens on any properties that you own.

Your next steps should have been to appeal the decision and make a counter-claim for fraud-if they don't have proof of the alleged debt they are attempting to collect, that is fraud, plain and simple. Anything not provable in writing is considered hearsay. Moreover, next time you get involved in something like this, file a complaint with the Office of Attorney Ethics, the CPFB and the BBB. And, yes, the AG in your state and the state that they practice in. Hoep this helps for the future.
