Person.com is an online dating site which I had been using for a relatively short time.

A man using the name Smith Berry replied to me claiming that he was a Models Agent living in New York. During our chat sessions Smith flew out to Africa on business to organize modelling shows. Smith told me that he was a good Christian, he had a house and a dog named Jerry back in New York.

Smith sent me lovely emails on regular occassions - basically he had swept me off my feet and I was overwhemed and flattered by all of this, BUT...

After 2 weeks Smith claimed that he needed money as he was having problems with his bank account back in New York and the money that was due to him after his 10 days work in Africa was not paid in cash to him as agreed but instead paid into his bank account in New York.

Smith was a very handsome man, obviously a model in his day, he travelled internationally because of his job once a month. Smith earn't alot of money, he suggested to take me with him whenever he travelled, he offered to buy me a business, but first of all he wanted to meet me in my country - Australia as soon as he was done with his job. Smith always told me how much he loved me and that he wanted to marry me and have children.
All too good to be true...

After Smith finished his 10 days work in Africa he told me he earn't $120,000 USD and that was to be paid to him in cash but the money got transferred to his New York Bank Account instead. Smith had left his credit card in New York as he had left his house in a rush and because of his problem with his bank account in New York he asked me for money so that he could fly to Australia to meet me. He also suggested that I go back to New York with him after he had visited me in Australia. He asked me for $1950.00 AUD being for his flight and he also wanted to by some gold before he left Africa because it was so cheap and that we would make alot of money if we sold it in Australia...

Because I hadn't met him before and only known him for a few weeks I asked him to scan his passport details to me which he did. Yes, Smith Berry was that handsome guy from New York. So I fell for it and sent him the money via Western Union... One day later we chatted again and he asked me for another $2,500 AUD, I knew by this time something was not right as I was becoming rather suspicious. During our chat sessions he told me his flight details to Australia...

Well after some investigations I find out that his passport was a FAKE one which was copied from the new American e-passport through a google search and that he wasn't even booked to board a flight to Australia at all,
I found that out as I had contacted the airline directly myself!!!

So now I am $1,950 AUD out of pocket and facing high interest charges because I had put the money I sent him on CREDIT! Oh, he wanted the other $2,500 AUD because he needed to pay taxes on the gold and because it weighed 100kg he had to pay excess luggage!

And just to top all the lies off he said he was staying at the Sheraton Hotel and the Manager there wanted to kill him for whatever reason, (apparently Americans are disliked in Nigeria) and that is why he wanted the money so urgently so that I could save his life!!!

He never got the other $2,500 that he asked for because by then I knew that he was a scammer from Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria...

So to sum it all up there are people out there on dating websites using other peoples ID incl. photos particularly of good looking models just so that they can set you up... IN THEIR HOPE TO TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE!

PLEASE BE WARNED - DO NOT FALL FOR IT!
