If I had the opportunity to recommend this company to anyone I would tell them they are unprofessional, inconsiderate and untrustworthy. I was quoted a price of $1785.00. That was the price agreed on in the contract. So when they arrived they began to wrap my couch, bookcases, bedroom furniture, etc. as necessary, your price for this service increased to $2505.00.
I am appalled at the way your company comes up with ways to make a profit.

Smooth Mover Moving & Storage company came to pick up my belonging on Jan.27th, 2007. In Alexandria, Virginia. When they arrived they began to wrap my couch, bookcases, bedroom furniture etc. Toward the end of the packing process they informed me that my bill was going to be an extra $700.00 plus. This was for the blankets that were fifthly, the tape and plastic wrap.

They loaded the truck and I drove to Texas, trusting that my furniture would be arriving around the same time I did or just a few days after. I arrived on Feb. 3rd, 2007, my furniture did not arrive until after the 21st.
When they began to unpack the truck my furniture was destroyed!! My bookcases were shredded like toys and my other solid wood furniture was dented, banged, cracked and handles torn off the dresser. My computer desk was destroyed and my brand new box spring mattress has two holes compliments of this moving company, they also broke one of my television sets. On top of destroying my property, they kept trying to give me things that were not mine. I could have made out with some nice things but I was the honest one and refused the shipment of these items. The driver who finally delivered my belongings was about the rudest person I have had the misfortune of dealing with. He called at 2 in the afternoon saying he was going to deliver my belongings and so I left work to make the apartment ready, drained the air mattress that I had been sleeping on for the previous 3 weeks and picked up the things I had borrowed from co workers so I could survive while they took their time with my things. At 9 pm. the driver called and told me that he would not be coming that evening because he could not find anyone to help him unload the truck. This was not my problem and yet he said "that he would be at my apartment around 8:30 the next morning. I explained I had a meeting and that I would return around 10:00 am He then told me that if I was not there at 8:30 he would not deliver my furniture. This company had already held my furniture hostage long enough. I cancelled my meeting and he did not show up till 9:30 in the morning. His comments and attitude caused me to tell him to stay out of my apartment and allow his workers to do the work since he sat in the truck air conditioned cab till the last of the things were about unloaded. He made a smart comment and I replied just because I am a large woman does not make me stupid. Once my belongings were unloaded he expected me to pay the two men he hired to unload the truck. I told him it was his responsibility to pay them and not mine. At the end of this traumatic day he wanted me to sign a form that I had received all my belongings in perfect condition and I refused. His comment, "Good luck collecting for anything broken" So now this company owes me 516.00 dollars in damaged and destroyed property as per their contact .60 cents per pound and they are only offering me 160.00 dollars to settle this claim. Talk about ripoffs. This company has the lead on the title of being the worst on the planet.
Your Contract states that Option 2 Released value of 60 cents per article, IF any article is lost, destroyed or damaged while in your movers custody, your movers liability is limited to the actual weight of the lost, destroyed, or damaged article multiplied by 60 cents per pound per article. This is the basic liability level and is provided at no charge. It is considerably less than the average value of household goods.

After that being stated, this fee comes to $516.00. You are only claiming that you will pay me a total of $160.00. Your settlement offer is not acceptable and I furthermore claim that this matter be settle to my satisfaction or I will take this to the Better Business Bureau.

Sincerely,

Nikki

Smooth Moves Moving Co. in San Antonio, Texas?

AUTHOR: Jlupear - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 11, 2008

I am an employee of Smooth Moves Moving Co. in San Antonio, TX. My name is Joseph, and I have been with the company since it was new. I checked our records after reading this complaint, and I don't have any record of us moving anyone by that name or from that city. I am not sure that this story is real, unless there is a company out there using our name fradulently. And, if that is the case, how did they get the lead all the way from the east coast to schedule a move? Also, our movers are professional, courteous, and use nearly new equipment. If you are the author of this complaint, please feel free to contact us at 210-449-2367 and ask for Joseph. I would like to straighten this out. I would hate to think that people are reading this review and associating it with our company. Thank you.
