The same girl went through our neighborhood on 6/25/08 giving the same story about her disability and that she was earning points for a scholastic trip. She said her name was Jennie Thompson and gave a fake address (I found out later) on our street. I, too, bought a magazine for $43.00, to be "contributed" to Children's Hospital of San Diego, where she had been "treated for seven years" when she was a child. She stated she was a student at CSU San Marcos.

My neighbor, who is obviously smarter than I was, decided to walk Jennie back to her house because she didn't recognize the name "Thompson" as someone living on our street. Sure enough, "Jennie" became very nervous as it was discovered that she and the address she claimed to live at was a lie.

Jennie was able to run away from the neighbor and she did not see where she went or if someone else was waiting for her. My neighbor came back to my house and reported this scam to me. I immediately put a stop payment on my check.

South Coast Circulation denies all knowledge of magazine scam

AUTHOR: Kathleen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Since I live in the same town as this so-called business, I drove over to the office address. They do have an office, but the door was locked. I got the phone number from reverse look-up as it is not on the receipt. I called and of course got a recording telling me when South Coast business hours were, Tues - Fri. So, I called the next day and actually got a human. She refused to give me her name, only that I had reached South Coast Circulation and that they were a data processing business. She "knew nothing" about any magazine sales, even though she acknowledged that their name and address was on the receipt. She told me to follow the instructions on the receipt and my order would be cancelled.

I also told her about the little scammer who had come to my house claiming to live in our neighborhood, and that when we followed her home, she ran off. She lied about her name and address. The woman on the phone hung up on me at that point. Maybe it was the llittle scammer herself!
