Public warning!!! Uneducated staff are selling animals as incorrect breeds, No known background not imforming buyers of health concerns, or any behavioural issues. You might be getting an animals from this shelter that could harm your child, other pets, end up costing you thousands of dollars in vet bills and this shelter has not concern or care about what they are adopting out. Buyers beware of this Shelter.

We have witnesses multiple dogs being adopted out from the Saskatoon SPCA,  where the SPCA workers are telling the public they are getting a purebred dogs which clearly is not and is not registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.

The pedigree act states you cannot call a dog a purebred if it is not registered and have proof of purebred linage a Pedigree with
registration numbers which can be registered with CKC. This is to protect the dog breeds that have been selected and bred true to type and temperament for some over a 100 years.

Many purebred dogs come from health cleared lines but not all pure dogs many with out papers are genetically unhealthy.

Many Crosses are from puppy mills, back yard breeders and reserves that do no health clearances, these dogs are at a much higher risk of health problems.  As many dog breeds carry the same genetic problems it only takes the pairing of two carries or affected dogs to produce a litter with in the same "dog species"  that will all be affected. Is the SPCA standing behind there dogs they are selling, what happenes if your new dogs have hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia which can cost you up to 6000 per joint to fix. What happens if your new dog has seizers? goes blind? Buyers beware, you can get healthy purebred CKC dogs and healthy crosses just make sure where you get your dog that is has a health guarantee or it could end up costing your up to 10,000 to fix a dog or even you having to put down your new pet.

The Saskatoon SPCA have over a page listed of pure dogs, pure labs, german sheppards etc. that are clearly crosses. To the uneducated new dog owner they might not know the difference from a purebred to a cross.  It's the SPCA job to inform possible buyers about the pure breeds and possible crosses in their dogs they are selling.

We were shopping in a local pet store and met a new dog owner.  They were 100% there new dog was a purebred as that is what the SPCA had just sold them. My friend and I looked at each other and couldn't believe the SPCA as misleding people like that!!

They were told it was a purebred retriever but other than it having the same color to the breed they were told it was, it had no other breed traits.  It was half the size of the breed they were told the fur wrong fur, wrong body shape and not calm but hyper the list goes on.

It will not take long for these people to realize their new dog is not the breed they were sold.

We have run into buyers in the dog parks that are saying similar comments: they just bought a lab from the SPCA, but it looked like a collie german sheppard or husky cross but was black!!! narrow face, up ears, longer fur!!! other than being black like a black lab it had not other traits to the breed.

After these buyers have several people informing them that they have been misled as their dog is clearly a cross, they are going to be very upset.  When they start doing internet research on the breed they will be able to see what they were sold does not look like the purebred dog breed they were sold.  They are going to feel abused and taken advantage off over the false sales and advertising that the SPCA have told them over there new pet. Some people pick certain breeds as they are better for kids and to find out that there new dogs is a cross with a breed that might not be suggested to there life style etc.

These buyers might not care as maybe they only could afford to spend $300 on a dog and dont really care if its a pure or not but if the SPCA is false advertising dogs to sell them this is HORRIBLE! Maybe they are a dog breed that people are afraid of as a pit bull and they are withholding this information to make the dog more adoptable?? Calling it a bulldog insted???? I would suggest before you buy a dog from the SPCA go home research the breed, look at what it should looks like, size traits etc and then decide if that breed is what the SPCA is selling their dogs as. Decide if this breed is safe or a good match for your life and family. Don't be taken in by the rescue dog, you must save them it is estimated that rescue dog breeds are the new way to resell dogs that organizations are making thousands of dollars selling dogs this way.

We contacted the SPCA on Oct. 30th, 2012 and talked to the receptionist over our concerns and what we were seeing. The receptionist was VERY rude, started arguing, and saying we tell people we can't guarantee the breed or anything on the dog we just go off what people tell us or we guess what the dog is.

I called to let them know that people are going to be upset to have just adopted a dog to be told one thing by this company to find out it is not what they were SOLD.

The receptionist was defensive that I would even suggest this and was very unprofessional in her position, argumentative; raising her voice on the phone etc.  I had to keep saying to try to calm her down, that I'm not phoning to fight with you just letting you know you should maybe run this by your boss.

Truly I was disgusted with her unprofessional demeanor over my concerns, I was completely dismissed and I have zero faith in this organization now, if this is how it is run what else is going on that they just dont care about, brush off, is it only about making a sale and not helping find the best home for the dog and the best fit to the person wanting a pet????.

I was not calling to argue or accuse them just to be helpful towards further adoptions and what they are telling people.

COMPANIES NEED TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN THERE STAFF, OR HIRE ONLY EDUCATED STAFF WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING WITH ANIMALS. NOT PEOPLE THAT GUESS, ARE RUDE WITH THE PUBLIC, AND DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE A SIMPLE CALL OF CONCERN!!!  THIS HAS LEFT ME WITH ZERO CONFIDENCE OVER THE STAFF THAT IS WORKING AT THIS SASKATOON SPCA.

SPCA does not lie

AUTHOR: EmmyMuir - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, November 02, 2012

I have volunteered for the Saskatoon SPCA for over ten years now.  I have adopted animals from them.  I have never seen a dog portrayed as purebred by staff when it wasn't.

I think that these people who now claim the SPCA lied to them wanted to brag about having a "purebred", maybe called it a purebred to friends and family, and when confronted with the truth, had to claim the SPCA lied to them in order to save face.

Educated consumers should know that a purebred dog should come with papers.  Anyone shopping for a "purebred" dog who didn't insist on papers is bound to be disappointed.

In any case, crossbreeds are usually healthier than purebreds.  I'm not sure what the appeal of a purebred is, but I AM sure that the Saskatoon SPCA is not claiming their dogs are purebred when they are not.

Ok first off learn how to spell. Second your grammar is absolutely terrible. If you fixed these two things than maybe people will actually take you seriously. As of right now you just look stupid and uneducated. Have you actually ever looked on the website? Obviously not. All of their breeds say MIX not purebred. I have never once been told by the staff at the Saskatoon SPCA that their animals are purebred. All the kennel cards on the dogs cages say shepherd x,lab x,poodle x. You obviously have a strong belief in breeders rather then a rescue. In all reality you have absolutely no right to be bashing the SPCA. More purebred dogs have medical issues then a rescue. Depending on the breed, even though they are medically clear when they are pups doesn't mean genetics won't kick in later on. Anyone can breed a dog and sell it for $2000. It takes a special type of person to work at a humane society. Constantly walking in everyday seeing the hundreds of abandoned, unwanted animals that people leave to die. Seriously get your facts straight before you open your mouth.
