Do NOT believe the web of seductive lies this company weaves. First, SpotOn is a rip off of an earlier application (which was actually called Spoton - proving once again there is no honor among thieves) tied to customers FourSquare check-ins and posts. SpotOn likes the idea of you working/training for free (I personally witnessed my Area Mgr - weak Doug - bragging to owners Matt and Zack about a woman working for free for a month - and they thought that was a good idea) while offering the most embarrassing and ineffectual "conference call" training possible. Then, after you close 4 deals - for which you are supremely under compensated - they will make you an "employee." Then the nightmare begins. Because that is when you become the target of the most unprofessional and demotivating management interference imaginable. In fact, my SUPREMELY weak "Area Manager" - Douglas Miller - as mentioned above, would prefer you struggling on your own, UNPAID, for a month or more (if you are desperate enough for ANY income) and will then brag to the owners of you're unpaid efforts. Needless to say, they are experiencing revolving door employee retention. While this company does not literally break the commandment that "you shouldn't have to pay to go to work," they callously break the spirit of same.
I am not new to the slings and arrows of outrageous sales fortune since I've been in commision only sales for over 25 years, but I knew after a few weeks of reaching "employee" status that something was not right with this Company (and I use the word "Company" loosely). Upon further review - and counter to all SpotOn representations - it turns out the ethos of this debacle called SpotOn more closely mirrors the "take no prisoners" wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am mentality of the slimy Merchant Services segment than the "simple, consumer-friendly" fraud which is the main thrust of SpotOn's pitch. And how could that be? It turns out that the owners of SpotOn - 2 boy twins named Matt and Zach - have a previous ownership stake in a Merchant Services company and have employed not only the personnel but the lack of morals that the Merchant Services segment is famous for. I really did not have a grip on how revolting this sales machine was until my direct report - Douglass Miller - screamed at me on the phone to ignore customer service! Sales were the only objective and F--- the new customer if they needed help. Unacceptable.
I have been in sales for over 25 years and never have I been told to F--- the customer so directly as I was by Douglas Miller with SpotOn.com. This may be business as usual in the slimy Merchant Services segment that Matt and Zach fostered in they're Capital Partners business and in which Douglas Miller took his cues from, but if you are looking for ethical employment, do NOT waste you're time with SpotOn.

No base salary plus commission

AUTHOR: adpro - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 24, 2013

When I interviewed for the SpotOn sales position, the job was (and still is) posted as offering a base salary plus generous commission. It was confusing when I received the Training Email with forms to sign up as an independent contractor. The company states that once you've completed the training and sales goals you will become eligible to become an employee.

I was able to handle the webinars and teleconferences as required while I worked another part time job. The commission paid for each sale is minimal compared to the time making the sale, installing the equipment, training the customer and staff. All by means of your vehicle, cell phone, computer, etc. I had specific problems with the provided router keeping the equipment connected and this had nothing to do with me making sales.

However I made my first 4 account sales and received the initial training bonus. Then I made the next 4 sales to complete a total of 8 accounts to receive the final training bonus. But I did not receive the final training bonus and was told that they would not hire me as an employee with base salary and commission unless I was selling one account per day!

I cannot afford to work for them as sales contractor without a salary to fuel the vehicle.

I have requested my final bonus and received a response that one of my clients canceled their service within the first 6-months and that I actually owe SpotOn a refund of my sales commission! There is no contract for the customer to sign so they can cancel anytime... and their resolve is at my expense!

Frustrated that they keep posting this job opportunity under false pretences.  I still want my final bonus that I worked for and earned.

Unprofessional managers

AUTHOR: BadManagement - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 14, 2013

Adding to this report about Spoton Slave, there seems to be a familiar theme with the Atlanta regional manager and North Florida manager. Don't help current customers, only sell numbers! Many of the small businesses need to have their hands held when making a decision like this, but it didn't matter to the manager, just get the numbers. They can figure it out on their own. Don't worry about other businesses using SpotOn that have questions, just get numbers.

I completely disagreed with this type of salesmanship. Numbers are important but small businesses don't make instantaneous decisions. Many of these relationships have to worked on for a period of time and demonstrate that this product or service will benefit them.

But this did not matter, just get numbers. It is hard to work for a person that has this mind set. But beyond that style he has almost no knowledge of how the system works including the hardware. Many times this manager had no clue how to access the wifi with the tablet or could answer my questions from a client they he should know. It is hard to sell a product to a client you have no idea how it works, yet, you are in charge of the "sales reps".

And I use the term "sales rep" very loosely. I can make more money being on unemployment! But here is an example - sell one client per week, get $150 check. But I spent 40-50 hours this week pulling doors and setting up a client. That comes out to $3.33 per hour I will make. That is 1989 minimum wage levels. And there was no contracted signed to make you a 'full-time sales rep" or for reimbursements.

But I digress, my point about this post is SpotOn has employees that are completely ignorant about the system and hardware it is selling. They are all about numbers and none about service. Don't work for them, it is not worth your time and effort as you will NEVER be hired as a full time employee.

By the way, I mentioned that the Atlanta area and North Florida managers have similar styles. It is because they are brothers. Doug is in Atlanta and Scott is out of Destin, FL. Neither care about you or the service you are selling , just get numbers and if you don't, you are just a number that gets replaced.

SpotOn Issues Resolved

AUTHOR: stoverco - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2013

I am updating my previous Ripoff Report, as SpotOn Corporate has reached-out in earnest to resolve my dispute(s) with the Company. At this point, I do not believe SpotOn to be complicit in scamming me or my peers. My issues - resolved and unresolved - are of a more local and personal nature and should have been restricted to area management (a term used loosely here) and not SpotOn in toto.

For this reason, my previous comments were over-reaching in their content and rancor and should have been duly constrained. Although I cannot personally flourish in a local management environment absent strength and integrity, I cannot say that this would not work for anyone else. Therefore, I retract any and all negative comments directed at SpotOn Corporate both generally and specifically.

As with all things: adaequatio rei et intellectus.

POSTED: Thursday, January 10, 2013

This has been a nightmare. I get charged for a product I never receive then another charge for another that is not received. I report the charges that have been put on my account and they offer to send product. I try the product for two weeks after receiving and it does NOT work then want to cancel or send back product. I have held the line several times for 30 minutes and get no representative
