In a time where we have a federal crisis and Hisotric Lincoln Home is shut down, crooks like Garret Moffett of Springfield Walks should not be allowed to capitalize on our town's historic sites. Not to mention is is the local town bully. He is notorious for running off tourists and others that are in the Lincoln Home area but not taking (or paying for his lame tours). Early this summer he approached me and a friend and accussed us of ghost hunting. We had no idea why he thought we were ghost hunting. He then demanded that we leave immediatly if we did not have a permit to be there. We contacted the National Park Services and were told that we DID NOT need a permit and that they have had other problems with Mr. Moffett running tourists off. Out of anger we tried to turn him into the Better Busness Bureau and online sites to gain support. This guy is getting away with all kinds of nonsense he should not be allowed to get away with including just recently registering a business he has been running almost 8 years. He is a crook, bully, and a person not to be trusted. Why would he care or harrass to middle aged women taking a walk in the Lincoln Home area. Oddly, he is endorsed by the Ililnois Vistors Center. We can't even take a peaceful walk in that neighborhood without him calling the police on us. This man is nuts and is also a crook. He needs to be shut down! He actually goes to review sites and anyone that posts a less than great review about him or his business he makes negative comments to them. Who does that? He doesn't even know that much about history and has made numerous historical errors in his tours. He needs to be shut down and replaced with a business that will honor the town of Springifeld, Illinois. Springfield and it's history deserves so much better!

This is just a brief response to "We Were Pleased". I'm glad you were pleased and enjoyed your tour. The report however went into detail about Mr. Moffett bullying others not taking his tours, running a business that was not registered for tax purposes, etc., charging for tours in an area that gives free tours but was temporarily closed due to a federal crisis, bullying people that gave less than stellar reviews, etc. I find it odd that you would take the time to make a comment on a complaint board and single out one sentence to respond to regarding historical facts. He may know a few but he also does impress upon many as someone who should not be giving any type of an historical tour. His lack of knowledge is apparent to those of us that are interested in Abraham Lincoln and have studied extensively regarding the history of Springfield and the State of Illinois and have read tons of books about the history of Abraham Lincoln and the Springfield area. I was not pleased with his tour and I think no proof is needed regarding his lack of knowledge of historical facts. The other items stated in this person's complaint seems like it could be proven if investigated. Certainly, this person could not prove anything on an open forum. Although, some of the statements/accusations are apparent and could easily be investigated. Out of curiosity, I did check the accusation about his business just being registered. This person was telling the truth about that so, perhaps, they are telling the truth about the rest of what they said.

Garrett told us at the beginning of the tour if anyone was dissatisfied to talk to him and he would work something out. He was interesting to listen to. If you have proof he's not truthful you should Have given specific details. We found the tour to be very interesting. Everyone in our group was thoroughly satisfied. I'm sorry you feel the way you do. He gave us many good suggestions of things to see & do and we enjoyed those as well.
