I was 18 when a lady who was riding public transportation overheard me telling someone I needed a monthly service cell phone. She then informed that she was a Sprint representative and that she could get me a cell phone "in my name". Of course I was eager to get a cell phone because they were so hard to get without any credit.

At this time unlimited nights and weekends weren't as common as they are now. So I chose 1000 day time minutes and 6500 night and weekend minutes. The lady gave me her phone number where I could reach her so could sign the contract and initiate the service. When I went to her residence I saw numerous contracts that were signed so I trusted her. She said I just needed to give her a hundred dollar deposit and choose my phone and my contract would be started and my phone would come in the mail.

When my Phone arrived I was excited until I began to use it!!!!! I did not work like a new phone should. The phone only worked while it was roaming and would never let me talk to someone the 98% of time for more than two min's. The worst part it was a phone malfunction and I did not live in a area where roaming should occur. No matter where I went it stated it was roaming. I would hear a piecing sound in my ear that actually gave me a headache and the call would disconnect. So a person could actually call me and before I could even get to say "hello" the phone would disconnect. That's a pretty clever way to be able to get someone to go over their minutes. When I called Sprint they never resolved the matter. I later found out it was a refurbished phone.

After I received a first enormous bill in the mail for a phone I never could use properly.... I realized the even worse part was that the contract was for six hundred daytime and 1000 nights and weekend min's. That's not the contract I had signed!!!!

This resulting in having to buy a new phone. I eventually got to change my plan and when I did they extended my contract without my knowledge.

To top it off from the time of first bill my bills ranged from $130 - 300+ with ridiculous charges added. The phone also connected to Internet browser on it's own so it would add extra charges to my bill.

I then found out the lady that originally made signed me up for sprint actually created a lot of false accounts in other people's names. So I decided to terminate my service so that wouldn't happen to me. The lady has my social sec # and all the information I gave her at that time. Fortunately I haven't seen anything on my credit that's extra. However, Sprint does have a collection account on me for $322 Dollars.

My last bill was approximately $154. I don't understand why my bills were so high when the highest monthly plan was 74.99 a month. Don't they think that they got enough money from me through the whole contract charging for extra things and things that were falsely added to my bill? What ever happened to my hundred dollar deposit? The funny thing is my name was always spelled incorrectly on my bills but how is this when I filled out the application myself. I think I know how to spell my own name. The point I'm getting to is that she must have changed my information and adjusted the contract. Sprint was no help at all. I would gladly join ANYONE in a class action suit against them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

was explaining what extra charges could be on your bill. I am not an employee, I just understand the billing system. 1 cent a kilobit could have easily come from 11 minutes of usage......... it goes by downloaded content not cost per minute. Anyways, it is good you found a cell phone company that works, unfortunatly Sprints service does suck some places in the U.S.

Sprint Pcs Charges-Rip off Tactics- Extra Charges on Billl /Response to Robandmar01

First... this was a long time ago. When things were not done probably like they are now. Not to be smart but I did say I signed the contract with her at her residence. There was nothing done over the phone! The only time that I talked to them was to see what my options were.If I had known that she was able to change it the contract so easily without my knowledge I wouldn't of signed up with them. I read the contract over and over. I was at her house for more than two hours asking questions. It was a bad decision to sign up but like I stated before I was 18. When Sprint changed my contract after buying a new phone...I did not agree to that. Nothing was read back to me three times or even one time. I was at a sprint store and bought it outright! There was no discount on the phone. So why would I want to agree to another year of service with a company who rips me off every month? When I explained to them about what happened they eventually they let me change my plan only because of the inconvenience. I was suppose to be able to change it without extending it for any period of time.

The extra charges where not just from roaming they were also from charging for minute overages for a phone that did not work. They also charged for minute overages on all dropped calls. Whether or not the roaming charges were billed from a third party, that still doesn't justify the fact that the phone roamed no matter where I went 90% of the time and that it was defective device.

Only if you were handed the short end of the stick and paying the price of a monthly car payment every month for a cell phone....then can you or anyone else understand my frustration. Who said that I even used text messaging? It doesn't state it anywhere in my complaint. The Internet? You said stated the cost .1 per kilobyte. I beg to differ. I'll give you an exact charge on my bill... for 11 minutes they charged me $4.29 cents (bill right in front of me from 6 years ago). Like I said my phone connected to it automatically.

If you are going to disagree then you should read it thoroughly. I didn't' like Sprint then, don't like them now and never ever will. I am happy with my cell phone company right now and have been for four years. Why is it that they have approximately 1060 reports on them? Seriously think about it. Even if only half of the people are telling the truth that's still way too many. You sound just like an employee and if you are and are also happy with them I'm glad for you. You might be one the other end one day so I would respect others complaints. Why even write if your not trying to help?

To anyone else please respond if you have had a similar experience or actually have information on what I could actually do please let me know. I'm only interested in a solution not opinions on my complaint, After all isn't that why this web site was created. My complaint is about an unfair business practice and this is the correct web site for justice to be served. Kudos to Ed!

Of course you have extra charges... if you use extra features

The internet ,roaming and/or text messageing are NOT included in your contract (with what you said you had )and you will be charged extra for them. they all are charged per use... internet is .1 cent a kilobite? and roaming is not charged by Sprint, it is charged THRU Sprint by the companies tower ( verizon, ect) you are talking off of. Text messaging I believe if you do not have a plan for it is 10 cents a text. Sprint has to have recorded verbal to extend your contract and verify it 3 times, so you where told when you got the new phone.

The collection amount will show on your credit, it is you early termination fee per your contract. As far as the lady who lied.... That part suks, they should have offered you a reasonable discount because of that IF your contract you signed stated those terms. If it did not you are at fault becaue you should always read what you sign.
