I recently transferred my wife's cell phone number to another carrier (AT&T). I left another phone active on my Sprint account. Then my monthly bill comes with a $170 early termination fee for the tranfered phone. I checked the details of that phone via the sprint website prior to cancelation to insure it was no longer under contract.

So, I called Sprint customer service, a few agents were of no help, so a manager was placed on the phone. She informed my that the number was placed under a new contract in March of 2009 when they extended a 10% discount on my plan. I did call in March of 2009 to cancel a computer wireless card and one of the lines on my account. At that time, the CSR offer to included the phone I was planning to cancel for free and extend a 10% discount on my wireless data card if I did not cancel. There was NO mention of any contract extension especially on my wife's line as it was a freebie on the familt plan.

So, I requested the manager provide either written or a voice recording of my agreement to any new extension of contract. She stated they have no way to prove contract acceptance other than the fact that they mailed a letter to my home address. I asked if it was sent certified mail and if they had proof of my receipt of that letter, of course they didn't.  So I explained to her that  I thought for two parties to have a binding contract at least one party should have some proof of an agreement between parties. Just dead air on the other end of the phone, no resolution was offered.

I plan to seek legal action immediately and cancel all other other services I currently have with Sprint.  I will be a loyal new AT&T customer ASAP!
