Filed a clain online for a 47 inch LED TV bought at Costco a couple years ago with a Squaretrade Warranty. I received a call back from Rory a "SquareTrade Care Specialist" asking me to send pictures. I did as requested and almost immediately received a form letter back stating

"Thank you for choosing SquareTrade to protect your item. We've completed our review of the claim you recently filed. Your television screen issue appears to be the result of physical damage from excessive pressure or an impact such as a drop or some other external force.

Flat screen panels are made up of several very thin pieces of glass with electronics and liquid crystals in between, and a much thicker, sturdy plastic or glass layer on the outer surface for protection. Although the top layer is sturdy, the lower layers are very fragile. The spots and lines you are seeing are the liquid crystal material seeping out from one or more cracks in the lower layers of the screen. These cracks would have been caused by an external force such as excessive pressure on the screen, or a drop or other impact.

Our standard warranty coverage only covers mechanical or electrical failure, and not damage resulting from physical damage or accidents. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions (
http://www.squaretrade.com/our-coverage) for more information on your coverage.

Since your warranty does not include coverage for physical or accidental damage, we will not be able to approve your claim. However, we are more than happy to keep your Care Plan in place to protect you against a future failure, if you have your item repaired at your own expense and submit proof of the repair.

However, if you can't repair your item and would like to have us cancel your warranty for a pro-rated refund, or if you have any questions or concerns about our findings, please respond to this e-mail or call 877-927-7268 Ext. 2033 between 6:00AM and 7:00PM PST. Thank you for your time.

There was no physical damage to the set. The set looks brand new. We really do not know what happened, whether there was a power surge or some electronic failure.  Thw warranty states that they will send someone out to look at it as it's over a certain size. The pictures that I took with a cell phone are pretty poor quality and do not reveal anything. I immediately contacted them asking to reconsider and honor their warranty that I purchased in good faith. In fact I e-mailed them again at least twice. They don't even have the courtesy to respond to my e-mails. This has taken place over 14 days as of today with zero response from them except for the original denial. I have since filed a complaint with the BBB as well, and I am filing complaints with Costco, the local government agencies that govern this, and with Wesco Insurance Company who seems to be their underwriter.

They should at least have the decency to respond to customers. Their non response attitude is certainly troublesome, and I am hoping that there is someone out there who will be filing a class action law suit against them to teach them a lesson

But they DID contact you with their determination. They are just not giving into your demands and that is all. There is a correct way to get a warranty that has been denied to do a reconsideration. THIS IS NOT THAT WAY!!!!! All YOU are doing is potentially making trouble for yourself by posting YOUR OPINIONS as FACT on a media outlet. STOP THAT!!!! Its called defamation and they can not only prove YOU wrote this post but they can pull up EVERYTHING you have sent out. All YOU have to do is request that a technician be sent out to PHYSICALLY EXAMINE the set. Since YOUR warranty is considered a CONTRACT, THEY would be in breech of said contract if they do NOT send out a tech. However, IF it is indeed a physical damage issue, then YOU will have to pay them for that visit. ALWAYS try and take the best possible picture you can. I take multiple pictures with different cameras to ensure I have the best quality photo to send. If YOUR photo was so crappy that it looks like screen damage, well YOU only have yourself to blame on that one. THEY are ONLY going on the information YOU have given them. So stop the whining and STOP the defamation. YOU are an adult. YOU are suffering from a MINOR inconvenience and nothing more. Just because they denied your FIRST claim doesn't make them a scam or a ripoff. THEY can ONLY go on the info YOU have presented. Resubmit your photos, ask for a living human being to come and examine the TV. THEY wont believe YOU but they WILL believe the technician. Good Luck in your endevours and TRY and understand exactly HOW MUCH FRAUD companies have to put up with DAILY!!!
