I recently purchased a Brother MFC-8480DN Lazar Printer from Staples Office Supply. I read the all the features carefully on the box and display printer before purchase. The features that are listed on the box that are important to this complaint reads as follows;
-High Quality Color Scanner up to 19200 by 19200 DPI.
-Flatbed Color Scanner for Bound Materials
Question; Wouldn't you think that if this Printer scans color that it would give you a color copy?? On the 17th day of purchase I had a need to scan a color copy in the flatbed color scanner as stated in the features, and clicked print to get a color copy. But it came out in BLACK INC only. After trying to figure out how to make it print color I called the Staples Store which informed me that the printer only prints in BLACK INC.
NO WHERE on the box that list the features of the printer does it state that it prints only in BLACK INC. I packed it up in all the original packaging and went to the store in which the girl in the return dept stated that even though I was over the 14 day return limit by 4 days that she agreed with me and showed my other Printers in which I found one that cost approx $200.00 more and I agreed to the purchase. Then she got the manager [Diego Mondrogon] to sign off on the return which at this point I thought was just a formality. The manager Diego said no to the exchange because I was 4 days over the return date. I explained the situation regarding the misleading info again to him, stating that every manager has discretion to override policy especially when you could clearly see the misleading info and that 4 days late on a 14 day return policy should be overlooked in this case. He said he "didn't care". I then made a complaint with an exact account of the problem on staples website and got an e-mail from The Office Of The President- Christina Colmier who blew me off also.
Doesn't Anyone Care About Customer Service Anymore??

Who mislead you?

I am very sorry for your experience. I am very familiar with the 8480DN. As far as it being not being a color printer, that could be determined from it not saying color on the box. All of our color on the box. And many black laser printers will scan in color so that you can scan items like pictures and such to your PC.

Staples does have a strict 14 day return policy that is monitored by corporate office. When returns are taken past 14 days, the store sometimes will get warnings from the headquarters. And to many warnings can lead to managers getting reprimanded.

I would say be careful when choosing a product, and do not be afraid to ask an associate about the products. They are there to help you.

Monochrome

Unfortunately it sounds like you didn't read the features in their entirety, or assumed that a printer capable of scanning color would have the capabilities of printing in color. As a previous poster specified, while it may be able to SCAN in color, a monochrome printer is only capable of PRINTING in black.

Also, to note, it's spelled INK not INC, sorry, but that was driving me nuts.

You are stupid.

Just because the printer states that it does color scans DOES NOT mean that it PRINTS color. PRINT AND SCAN are 2 different things you retard.

The Manager was simply following the rules of the company. So shut up please. We have to deal with people like you ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

From the OP:

"After trying to figure out how to make it print color I called the Staples Store which informed me that the printer only prints in BLACK INC."

First of all, whatever is on the box is a manufacturer issue and I doubt that Staples had anything on the shelf that mislead you into thinking that this was a color printer. In fact, nowhere on the box does it say that this printer offers color prints. Did you notice that the ppm was only listed for black? Did you notice that the instruction manual makes no mention of printing in color?

Lastly, when you set up the printer did you notice that there was only a black toner cartridge and no color cartridges?

Next time do your homework

The Brother web site lists features of the printer. The first feature reads: "Produces crisp monochrome output"

Check the box again. Does it read monochrome output? Of course it does. Does it read color output? Of course not.

Next time do your homework.
