I do rebates often and usually don't have a problem, but I've only had one out of 4 successes with rebates at Staples. Two years ago I bought a cdwriter and scanner deal with a rebate. The store didn't have a copy of the rebate form but told me to give them my name and address and they would send one. I did. Two weeks not a word.

I went back and went through the same routine, they didn't know what I was talking about from the first time. No answer. Needless to say the rebate expired.

The next rebate was a modem which I filled out correctly but Staples denied because they said I didn't fill out the form correctly, which I did.

I then received a $5 rebate successfully, after missing out on 75 dollars of other rebates. I swore off Staples but took a chance on you guessed it, PRIME PERIPHERALS CDR packs, and now my understanding is that everyone is having trouble getting this rebate.

Staples fliers are always full of great deals with rebates...don't believe them.

take it up to the store

AUTHOR: John - ()

POSTED: Monday, July 01, 2002

I love stores that have rebates. It allows me to save even more than their sale price. And I have had my share of rebates that were invalid for some reason or another.

I have had some from Staples, but I always got my check from them. I make copies of what I submitted and if they send me a reject postcard or no word, I take it up with the store manager. They make a call to the rebate place and push the rebate through. Try taking your case to the store manager. But show proof that you made the purchase and have copies of what you submitted. I got my prime peripherals cdr rebate 3 weeks after visiting the store.

Rebuttal:
I always consider the rebate a ripoff. If the price without the rebate seems too high, I just get something else. I always assume they are going to stick me, and I'm seldom wrong. Remember this too- even if you do get the cash back, they have purchased more information from you than the rebate is usually worth. My trick was to mispell my name slightly, so the
bank would still accept the cheque, and then wait to see all the crap I got in the mail and in my e-mail with that name- you'd be amazed!
