Staples boasts their "Price Match Guarantee" with large signs in every store. Just look at their marketing and you will see this guarantee.

What is a price match guarantee? It is a confidence tool. A tool used to gain your trust through confidence in the term "guarantee." It is used to reduce doubt about a purchase decision where price may be a strong influence. It makes us feel comfortable knowing we are not over-paying.

I recently learned that "Price Match Guarantee" is a hoax, a sham, when dealing with Staples. FACT: Most people do not read the fine print or not-so-fine print (details), and I feel large companies bank on this premise. 

Go ahead, read the details. Staples does a price match guarantee on a few select competitors. So, if you find a product for less on another reputable companies website or in their store, Staples will NOT price match if that store is not in their scope of price matching.

Okay, I accepted their terms. One of the competitors they accept is Amazon. So, I found a product for less on Amazon and tried buying it at staples for the lower price. After arguing with employees, assistant manager, and store manager, it was not until the second visit that store manager accepted the fact they price match against Amazon. However, to avoid the price match, he claimed their price match refers to physical stores only. Really? 

Amazon doesn't have stores. But the manager insisted they do. Well, they do not. I also called customer care, they too would NOT honor the price match. The only reason I dealt with this nonsense is the gift card I received. 

In the end, Staples did NOT honor the price match guarantee. I made a different purchase and told them I would never return. Two weeks later that item went on sale for the price I was trying to get originally. 

Do not buy from these scammers. Do not give loved ones gift cards from any specific store or they will be stuck with nonsense like I was. Not much of a gift card at all.
