What a nightmare!!!

The move from hell.

We used a mover because I have a bad back. We packed/Boxed 80% of our belongings beforehand. When we made the call we were asked general questions about the square footage of our house (1500), # of rooms (3) and contents of each room. We were told based on this information they will be sending two movers.

When our two movers arrived around 12 PM they said we had a lot of stuff for two people to move. We informed them that we had given an accurate inventory and were told they would send two of you. My wife stayed at the house being moved while I went to the new place that was two miles away. Around 4 PM my wife called to say we needed to switch because they were moving like pond water and she was getting pissed.

When I arrived not a single item had been placed in the truck in 4 hours. Being a good hearted person, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I thought maybe they were wrapping some of the bigger items (dressers, Desks, sofa, ECT) and would knock out the loading quickly.

WRONG!!!!

They spent several half hour sessions trying to figure out how they were going to get 85% of my belonging in the truck. They spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get my sofa out the front door. At 9 PM, that's 9 hours later, they had the truck loaded with 85% of my belongings and they followed me the two miles to the house.

I called ahead and made sure there was some food for these guys. I thought that if I didn't get some food in these guys they would move even slower. They spent an hour eating the food provided and after several hints that it was time to get back to work we had to tell them to get moving.

We didn't think it would take very long to off load.

WRONG!!!!! AGAIN

After listening to them moan about having to move things upstairs, we agreed to let them move most things into the garage.

The reason they were hired in the first place was to save my back, which I explained to them at the old house.

At 4:20 AM they said they were ready to settle the bill. This is after they spent another 45min of tiring to contact a boss on their Nextel.

When I questioned that they hadn't even finished off loading my stuff, I was told they were keeping those incase there was a problem with me paying the bill. When I questioned if my belongings were being held hostage? I was told not if you pay your bill.

I insisted that they call their boss back, so that I could talk to him. I explained that they took several long breaks, took over an hour to get my sofa out the front door and didn't move all of my belongings, that I still had to move the rest of my belongings myself. The replied that I could pay the bill or they would keep the stuff that was still on the truck. I informed the boss that I thought I would let the PD settle it and called the local PD.

While I was on the phone, the two movers were moving at light speed trying to close up the truck and get out of there. I had my wife block the front of the truck with her car while I blocked the back with my truck.

The local PD arrived shortly, around 5 AM, and proceeded to explain that the movers had me by the balls. We had signed a contract for $78.00 an hour and that wasn't to exceed $3000.00 total. The bill was for $1400.00+ well under the max. No time was deducted for breaks. They further explained that this was a civil matter and they were there to make sure things didn't get physical. PD informed us that if we didn't pay the full amount that a lien could be placed on our new home.

My wife was ready to rip their arms off and beat them with their own arms. She explained to them that if they had moved half as fast as they did then the PD was on the way that there wouldn't be a problem.

We paid the full bill and had to finish the rest of the move on our own.

NOTE TO SELF - Don't be a Dumb*ss next time
