In December of 2007 Statewide Remodeling installed 26 new windows in my home. These windows were supposed to cut 49% off my energy bills. Almost a year later the savings have only been about 10-20%.

For the last six months my husband and I have been trying to get Statewide to follow through on this guarantee. Obviously, they have not or I wouldnt be writing to you. In order to understand our situation a bit better, allow me to provide you with some background information: We moved into this house in August of 2007. In October it became clear that the windows needed replacing. Statewide Remodeling seemed a good choice given their reputation. A salesman came out and provided a demonstration of the top of the line Quantum 2 windows. He also provided materials stating how energy efficient they were. The materials all say that the Quantum 2 windows will cut 49% off your energy bill. (I still have all these promo materials. Their web site also provided the same information: Quantum 2 ) He also said that they were guaranteed to perform as such or the company would pay a year worth of electric bills. He said that this would be based on 12 months of bills. I inquired how this could be done since we had only moved into the house in August. He said his company could get the bills for the months we did not own this home. He also said after the windows were installed the guarantee information would be sent to us. (We never received anything.)

It became clear fairly quickly, that the windows were not performing as advertised. My husband contacted Statewide about this and their response was that nothing could be done until December 2008 since it was a year from when the windows were installed. In June 2008 we had a more energy efficient heating and cooling unit installed and added another several inches of insulation to the attic and still there was no major reduction in energy costs.

In January, Statewide was contacted again about this guarantee. The story changed that if the windows did not perform as promised that the company would pay a years worth of electric bills to only $500. In order to evaluate our claim they would need the previous years electric bills. They were sent the bills from August to December of 2008. They then insisted that they had to have the rest of the bills. I told them what the salesman said and basically made it sound like I was making things up. I called TXU to see if they could provide those bills to me, but of course they could not due to privacy laws. I informed Statewide of this and they said that unless they had those nothing could be done and that I should pester TXU the way I was pestering them. It didnt matter to them at all that we had only moved into the house in August 2007. Then they had to have everything sent directly to them from TXU. Again, due to privacy laws, TXU will not do this. Statewide was informed of this and then they stopped returning my husbands phone calls.

He started looking into complaints against them online and saw on these web site replies from Frank the VP saying that if there were problems to call him. My husband did and was basically told to pound sand. (Here are links to his replies to consumer complaints: Rip-off Report: Statewide Remodeling Rip-off Report: Statewide Remodeling 2 Insider Pages - Statewide Remodeling I encourage you to read them.) Enraged, I called and told them about the new a/c unit and insulation. I also asked them if they were familiar with privacy laws. I was then told that the company who had made our windows went out of business and as a show of good faith Statewide would pay us $250. I told them that I would have to discuss it with my husband, a few days later; I called and said we would take their offer. No check ever came. I called again and left messages asking where the check was and never received a response. After that call, I called the company that now makes the Quantum 2 windows and asked them if the claims about performance Statewide was making were true. The rep I spoke to said that they were and that something must be wrong with the ones installed in our house. Either they were not the correct windows at all or they were installed improperly. I called again and let them know the above. Finally, I was referred to someone else, who said to send him the electric bill info again so he could evaluate it and that in a few days he would get back to me and he would also have someone come out to check the windows. A week went by and nothing, so I emailed him again. Another week passed and still nothing, so I sent another email. A day or two after my last email, I called and was told that they had the spam filters set so high on their email system that my email would have to be added to a safe sender list. This was done and I emailed again. A week passed and still nothing. I called again and was given a different email address to send to. I finally received a reply after this email that it had been received. That was over three months ago. I still have not heard anything and still have not had anyone from Statewide inspect the windows.

My husband and I are tired and frustrated by this whole matter. We are not energy hogs. We have energy saver light bulbs in every light. We wash in cold water. We have all new energy efficient appliances. We do not leave everything electrical on in the house. We set the heat at 60 and the AC at 77. We didnt get the windows and see them as a license, increase our energy consumption. It seems, to me at least, that Statewide is dragging this out in the hopes that we will just go away. I continually reassure them, that this is not the case. Please help us resolve this matter. We feel, under the circumstances, that the very least they should do is either replace the windows or refund us for part of the $25,000 they cost.

Timely Response

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Frank

Thanks once again for your timely response 6 months later.  You apparently are clueless as to what customer service truly is.  I have contacted you and your company several times.  I would contact a doctor about your memory loss.

Your company knows when that picture was taken as a rep was out here to confirm the poor installation.  No one though has yet to come out and actually fix the problem.

I am truly sympathetic for you as you don't have a clue as to what happens at your company.  The customer service you preach is undermined by your employees.  Truth be told, I'm not sure you visit the office anymore.  If you did you would see the problem lies in the leadership.

A good example is your company contacting asking if I wanted to do business again.  Your rep stated that I had your company install windows and an awning.  I had to convince him that I didn't have an awning installed.  His actually argued with me like I didn't know what projects were done on my home.

I look forward to your response 6 months from now.  Many thanks Frank as you continue to prove my point.

The Rant continues!

AUTHOR: Frank manzare vp-partner - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, November 15, 2010

the rant never ends with these folks. we have a written agreement with the BBB to binding arbatration. In case these folks don't know what that means. it means that we will tell our side of the story and the customer tells theirs the BBB will make the final decision on what should be done and Statewide Remodeling has agreed to abide by their decision.

I do not intend to chase this customer down. I don't know where they took this picture they have posted here? If they have a service problem call our service dept at 214-677-9000. If it is a covered item it will be fixed without charge.

3 Months

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, May 10, 2010

Well Frank,

Thanks again for proving my point.  It took you almost three months to post a rebuttal.  That's par for the course.  Your company makes promises that no one honors.  No one has yet contacted me to inspect the windows.

When are you going to honor your word with me?  It's been 5 months now.  No inspection, no phone calls, nothing.  Giving out your number is useless when your company doesn't follow up.

The BBB is a meaningless entity.  You know it and those that have dealt with them know it.  They can't enforce any laws and have zero power.  Your BBB rating means nothing.

You didn't address any of my concerns and your rhetoric is laughable.

When you want to honor your company's promises you let me know.  In the meantime, if you are a customer considering using Statewide, please hire a lawyer and have them present when dealing with them.

No followup by Statewide.

Hey Frank,

Got your check for $250.  However, you gave me your word in December that Grayson would call and schedule someone to come out and inspect the windows.  Today is February 28th and no phone call.  You have dozens of complaints on the BBB.  Most are NOT resolved to the customer's satisfaction.  In fact, they state that the consumer was not satisfied with your resolution and the BBB just closed the case.

I would never recommend your company and your word is now meaningless.  Your company does not stand by it's guarantees.

Do not bother to call me now.  I wouldn't trust that your company would conduct an ethical inspection on the windows.

Attached is a picture of one of your poorly installed windows.  Water is leaking through causing mold damage.  Course if you or one of your "highly" trained staff took 5 minutes out of your day and actually inspected the work your company does you would have noticed.  But you are all talk and zero action.

Hopefully you are still not confused.

I'll admitt i'm confused

I'm still scratching my head on this one! They claim that our windows are a rip off because they didn't save money on heating & cooling costs? but i believe they say

"Almost a year later the savings have only been about 10-20%."  TXU says heating & cooling costs only make up about 1/2 of the total bill. by their own claim they are saving 20-40% on heating & cooling costs! do the math.

I cannot help that their situation doesn't qualify for the manufactures energy pledge. It is what it is. I have paid them the $250 i promised. The energy Pledge comes from the manufacture not me. So Statewide has stepped up to the plate

as to their claim that Statewide Remodeling is inundated with complaints go check our BBB ranking at all 3 agency's in Texas we are members of we have at least an A ranking

here is my question. they also state they replaced their HVAC system & added insulation and still have not seen a reduction in their energy bills? I guess that is my fault too? I wonder what they are saying about the company who installed those products?

again i appreciate the opportunity to serve Texas homeowners. We make all our guarantee's in writing & stand behind them. I'm sorry we can't make Mr. & Mrs. Wahl happy with their windows

We talked with Frank

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, December 12, 2009

We did talk with Frank in Feb 2009.  The fact that he cannot recall speaking with us elludes to the vast amount of consumer complaints he deals with on a daily basis.

I asked him numerous times to fax or provide a copy of the form I signed with his "guarantee".  He has not been able to provide that form.

They do not honor any warrantees.

They do not offer to inspect their work once it is complete.

When they have called me asking if I wanted to do future business with them I again explain my issue with the windows only to be told "Huh, that's too bad.  We have a sale on patio installation.  Want someone to give you a quote?"

Being offered $250 by Frank himself for a $25,000 project is an insult.  Yes Frank, you actually made me the offer over the phone, not one of your staff.

these people never talked to Frank Manzare VP

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 12, 2009

Statewide Remodeling has been in business for over 15 years we have an A+ rating with the BBB. we have received the Consumers Choice award for business excellence for the last 4 years. we have received numerous other awards for ethical business practice. WE DO NOT RIP OFF CUSTOMERS!!!!!! I will not try to explain or even speculate why this home owner cannot get their home energy use under control. I can tell you that many of the things they accuse my company of here are totally NOT true and can be verified. We never have offered anything that guarantees to reduce a home energy bill.  Q2 window did have a 49% energy pledge which we gave every customer who purchased those windows. The sales person was required to have the homeowner sign an agreement stating that it covered heating and cooling costs only. If the form was not in the file we did not build the windows or install the job until we had it. new windows cannot impact how you use your HVAC system or how much hot water you use etc. We also send a copy of the energy pledge to the homeowner with their warranty when the job is completed. You noticed the home owner states they signed with Statewide Remodeling because of our reputation. We did not get that reputation by taking advantage of our customers. we have installed thousands of replacement windows and yes sometimes the homeowner does not get the heating and cooling cost reduction the pledge guarantees. we must have some way to gauge that. we use the utility bills for 12 months prior to window install and 12 months after. this is stated in the energy pledge claim form the customer receives with the warranty. many companies tell you their windows will save you money but we are one of the only ones i am aware of that put it in writing. what also puzzles me is if this homeowner installed a high efficiency HVAC and additional insulation and still have not reduced their energy bills they no doubt have a problem with the weatherization of their home. the reason we offered the $250. was as good faith to this customer. I remember ok'ing this with our service dept. We have never done this before and we do get 4-5 energy pledge claims a year. So i remember making an exception for payment without documentation which this homeowner states they do not have. I just can't remember their name. We have also Never made a claim to pay a years worth of electric bills for any reason. Every claim we make we put in writing this can be confirmed on our web site @ http://www.statewideremodeling.com/ . also i am concerned that this homeowner does not mention any ones name except mine? So i am not sure who this is. why do they continue to state i sent an email with no response? I called and left a message and they never called back? who are these people they left a message with? what is the email address they sent the email to? I would never tell a customer to pound sand as they have stated. i started this company with my partner in 1994. I ran the first appointment and sold the first job. anyone who has started a company from nothing and built it into a successful long term business knows you have to respect the customer! I do!. my personal cell phone number is on my business card & i answer it 9a to 9p 7 days a week. i guarantee any customer who calls me on my cell or at our office during business hours that has to leave a message i will return your call within 24 hours. I even have a message on my office phone that if you are a customer please identify yourself. this is because of the many unsolicited calls i receive. i will contact my service department on Monday 12-14 and see if i can confirm who this homeowner is and i will call them myself and hand deliver their check for $250. I am also a certified home energy auditor. while i am at their residence delivering their check i will be happy to do a free home energy audit at no charge. these typically cost $250. i can be reached at 214-677-9000 ext 201 my name is Frank Manzare i am VP & Founder of Statewide Remodeling we also offer a satisfaction guaranteed or your money back ...In Writing!
