Today I was in court. I am still shocked that it has gone this far but, nevertheless, I was in court today. I was there to defend myself against Michael R. Stillman, Stillman Law Offices, who filed suit for Midland Credit Management, who claim to be assignee's of HSBC. They claim I owe money for a credit card.

The problem, you see, is that I never had that credit card. HSBC has been wonderfull in providing me with documentation to that effect. I have had nothing but good experiences with HSBC, perhaps because I have had 11 other credit cards with them, none of which ever went unpaid.

Now, despite submitting proof to Stillman Law Offices that this account is not mine, proof directly from the company that I supposedly owe, they actually let it go to court. What is even more hilarious is the weak excuse they gave in court. I had once been contacted and found an incorrect entry in my credit report from Main Street Acquisition which stated that the account in question, with the exact account number, had been paid in full. It is only after I investigated further that I found the account was fraudulent. The report of fraud is from Household Bank and the report of paid in full is listed as HSBC. Since Stillman Law Offices contacted me about "HSBC" that is the info that I gave them.
What changes nothing is the fact that Stillman Law Offices is "supposed" to verify information. I requested that, they claimed they verified, and yet, HSBC has been gratious enough to share with me the fact that they have NEVER been contacted my Midland Credit Management or by Stillman Law Offices about this account.

I cannot state enough how much I appreciate all of the assistance that HSBC has offered to me. They asked me to, and I did, send copies of all my legal papers, correspondence with Midland Credit Management and also with Stillman Law Offices. I believe that HSBC is planning legal action of their own, but that is purely speculative on my part. HSBC and I have pledged to help each other with any legal steps that we might take which, in my case, is forthcoming. I have retained a lawyer and intend upon coming up with a legal answer to this problem very soon.
