We were solicited for a Stores Online seminar in Greensboro,NC. I know these set ups, a cattle call to find interest and a small investment for a presentation. The 2nd Presentation changed location twice, we were told for size reasons, from a venue in High Point to the Mariot in Greensboro, then finally to the Empire Room in Greensboro.
They were unprepared for the turn out that they got, right! About 60 people sat in the back and got chairs, no tables, nothing. The Stores Online workers had tables two deep to support their laptops and credit card terminals in the back.
The event is a show, of sorts. Heres a tip: if the people putting on the presentation run up and down the aisles...leave.
The whole teaser is how to get your webpage listed in the top 3 on any search engine. The session starts at 9am. People are filing in and its a flurry of activity for a while. THe opening presenter Tim is a nice energetic guy, well groomed, and in uniform (They all wear the same shade shirt and tie, like a consistant well oiled machine (Just kidding)
Tim gave a very upbeat message of hope and promise of freedom to prepare for Brian!!!!(hurah!!!) Big round of applause.
Brian is NOT an employee of Stores Online. He is a customer...a successful customer...who been asked to come out here to Greensboro, NC to talk to us, yes us about this fabulously simple idea. While he is an outside individual he can not say exactly what the Stores Online staff is going to do for us, but it will be great. Everyone was handed a finance form and asked to fill out all their personal financial information, just in case, we wanted financing.
Lunch break finally arrived about 1:20pm. Those in the back were told they could sit on the floor and use their chairs for a table! Excuse me??
The entire time, the Stores Online employees were sitting back at the double think tables processing financial information. What i am saying is:we were at lest 8 tables shy of what we needed and the Stores online folks had 16 tables stacked 2 together for a laptop and handouts for their own use, but WE the ones who are there to spend upwards of $7,000 were to sit on the floor?
The exchange I had with one of the Stores Online employees was on the negative side about this. My wife told them they weren't thinking 'Outside the box' (One of Tim's pet phrases). We took our food and sat out in the hall at a formal table for the hotel.
The afternoon sessions went on and the 'Consultations' kept happening. They were basically high pressure sales techniques.
People were leaving by the score after their 'consultation'.
These companies don't plan for people like my wife and I who know all the Zig Ziglar stuff. They can't talk without a metaphor! Finally about 6:30pm one of the 'Consultants' came up to us and asked if I was ready to go out and 'See how they could get me started' tempted as I was to poke holes directly in his pitch I waited for the FINAL Big news, which was...wait for it...wait...Overture.com lists who is paying what for Pay-Per-Click and how you can bid and be #1 on Yahoo, Google and every other search engine.
Save your 10 hours and go to Overture.com and figure it out for yourself. NOTHING they sell at Stores Online can be considered new. Reverse Keyword Search and similar items are available by using Niche Browser (A FREE download) and reading everything that is offered at Overture.com.
Stores online plays emotions into sales as a pitch but has no CLUE how to service customers while they are in the corral. It was a horrific experience and hopefully I can help just ONE person from not enduring what i had to endure.
