At one time i was interested in enrolling in some online classes at Strayer University to improve my skills in my present position. Tia, the admissions advisor was excellent. However at times she became pushy. I finally faxed over the required documents to her and to the financial aid department. She registered me for 2 classes. The financial aid department informed me ahead of time that there processing problems, I requested in both verbally and writing to drop the classes because I could not afford them on my own.

After assurances from the staff that they were indeed dropped. A Diana Cifuentes sends me a bill for $560. I questioned her as to why I am getting billed for this. I never logged on to the classes so they don't have any record of active participation. I was under the understanding that those classes were dropped. My home phone was turned off for a few weeks therefore hindering dialup internet activities anyway but i was under the mindset that the classes were dropped as confirmed by the staff. I was told that I would not get billed because I never logged into the site and participated. I would definitely pay if I had logged into the classes and participated. My requests to drop were way before the classes began.

Diana Cifuentes and i went email tag on each other about this. She advised me to fill out a dispute form in which I had the option to send to them electronically and got confirmation that they received the message and read it. I never received status on the dispute. She did not answer my questions as to the lenght of time it would take, nor the status. She kept sending bills for this amount and would not address any of my questions.

Yesterday, I received a letter in the mail from her. In it, she indicates a follow up to a settlement of this outstanding balance of $260.64. Note, there never was any communication or offer of a settlement for this amount. Nor any information about this dispute process still pending. We have not be in touch with each since 10/24/06. In the letter she indicates our last contact was 9/1/06 which is not true because I have all the documentation. We have never discussed a settlement, I am not acknowledging this debt because I have requested many times to drop and it was confirmed, however, they want to bill me for something that was dropped, plus I have never logged online either.

Going further in this latest letter, dated 12/02/2006, she indicates that it would be in my best interest to to contact the business office immediately to make arrangements to "eliminate the outstanding debt." or threaten to send me to a collection agency for collection and hurt my credit.

I am sending a letter via certified mail to her indicating the following as advised by an attorney at my place of employment, I questioned the evidence of logging into the website (did not log in due to understanding that they have been dropped a long time before classes started and telephone had been cut off so I did not have access to the internet, and paper document trail of requests to drop and no information regarding their "dispute" process.

I have since found a community college which is cheaper and do not wish to sign up for any online classes with Strayer or and other online university.
