The day of my move I called to see where my movers were after 3 hours into the arrival time. Donna advised that she sent them to my neighborhood, they called from my neighborhood entrance and since I failed to answer the call she cancelled my move. Donna advised that they sent the crew home after trying to call me 5 times with no answer as that is company policy. My phone did not ring not once and there were no voice mails. Since the basis for my cancellation was due to her advising I did not answer my phone, I asked her to confirm my number. Donna had a very argumentative and rude attitude, and seemed to just be focused on blaming me for the not following through. She called out the wrong number, then proceeded to verify with the staff and continued to confirm the wrong number. I advised her- ma’am that’s not my number. I assume she checked her paperwork and realized her error but then she got extremely disrespectful and blatantly rude and had said oh I just called out the number wrong, proceeded to call me a liar and infer I purposefully missed her call. Why would I miss my movers call if I know its an absolute must that I move. Donna Continued to push back as if I deserved to have my movers cancelled.

I had to move out of my home this was not an option, it was a must. I calmly tried to rationalize with this woman to no avail. After I asked her to escalate my issue she advised me she was the boss and there was no one else I could speak with. Since her attitude, behavior, and solution was unacceptable and she offered no solutions, I got off the phone and started researching the company’s owners. I found a District Manager on LinkedIn (linkedin.com/in/reynaldo-sanchez-3ab45271/ ) and called and left him a message. After waiting an additional hr., I was finally able to speak with him. He reinforced that the policy. I never received a phone call and his own staff verified the wrong number not once but numerous times. After explaining my side to the DM, he finally agrees to send a crew to my home.

So at 7:45 pm I was finally going to be able to move my home. I had initially requested a 3-man crew. What they sent to me in the final hour was a 2-man crew with a truck to move a small apartment, not a home. They sent two males who were in their mid 50’s who stood in my driveway complaining for 20 minutes on how my house is too big and it was just too late. Since the name of the company is Student movers, I was anticipating at least some young energetic college students. The men advised they were upset as they were told by the company that they were only moving a two-bedroom house. They explained to me that the company uses sub-contractors for these moves.

The company had misrepresented to their contractors the job they were hired to do. I decided to call a few friends to come over and help because this was going to be a long night! Half way during the load one mover says he is trying to get more help because this truck is too small. I explained to him my reservation was for 3 movers and a large truck. Student Movers offers to send another truck to help BUT advised I would have to pay even MORE money for the additional truck (original truck requested) and any additional movers. I called Student Movers directly and spoke with Donna again. Donna had the nastiest attitude I have ever encountered. I asked her to clarify that she was asking me to pay double for not getting for what I asked for in the first place. I offered to pay half of the additional costs. Donna starts yelling “these guys are not SLAVES”, and you just want something for nothing. Finally, I advised Donna that she is trying to make me pay for her mistake. I really was trying to remain calm as I was in a tough spot. This company had me in distress and took advantage of me financially because I had no other option. They don’t employ young college students- in fact they outsource their moves to other moving companies. I learned the hard way and I share my story in hopes you don’t get scammed by this company like I did.
