Subway Sandwiches, Delta Fair Blvd In Antioch CA

Nothing against Subway Corporation as a whole, I love Subway but on 12/16/2005, we purchased three sandwiches and two soups from the Subway on Delta Fair Blvd in Antioch.

One of the Sandwiches we received was not what we ordered. The bread was wrong and it was the skimpiest sandwich I had ever seen, we ordered a veggie and they put less veggies on it then they did on the meat sandwiches.

We returned to the store to get our money back for just the 1 sandwich. We had the receipt and not a single bite was taken from it. My fiancee went in to the store and explained to the owner (at least he said he was the owner), the situation.

The Owner proceeded to interrogate my Fiancee about who prepared the sandwich, then told us he would not give us our money back, because we could not prove we received the wrong sandwich (we had the receipt and the entire sandwich, again not one bit taken from it, why on earth would we eat 2 of the sandwiches and the soups, then proceed to return a sandwich that we did in fact order??).

Obviously upset, my fiancee tossed the sandwich, it fell and spilled on the floor. The Owner then cursed my Fiancee, now even more upset, my fiance reciprocated the curses and returned to the car. I then went in the store myself to get my money back, the owner refused and after I argued with him (no curses) for a few minutes and said I wasn't going to leave until I got my money, he said he was going to call the cops because he said my fiancee threatened him, which he did not.

I waited for about 15 minutes for the cops and asked the owner if they were coming, he said he didn't know. I asked him for the phone number so I could call them and he wouldn't give it to me. So I called 411 from my cell phone and as I was listening to the recording for the Antioch Police, my fiance called and said we had to go, as we had already promised our children we would take them to another local restaurant to eat and play and we were suppose to meet a friend there at a certain time.

We went on our way and not three minutes after we left we were pulled over by two cops, asked to put our hands out the window and were frisked like some violent criminals, while our frightened small children and their friend sat in the car and watched.

After speaking with the officers in the freezing cold for who knows how long we were released with no charges, not even a ticket write-up or anything. All we wanted was $2.99, when we had spent $13, we didn't receive it. If this happened to us it could happen to you.

We ask that you please do not patronize this Subway, This guy does not deserve any business, with the way he treats his customers. Below is a list of other Subway's in the Antioch and Pittsburg area.

In response to Jennifer - Antioch, California: Thank you fellow Antioch resident!!!! I too have worked in the customer service environment so I know about the customer is always right philosophy. I can't say I always agreed, but I abided by it. I even brought it up to the subway owner (you'd think he would know about it since he's supposedly the owned of a customer oriented business), and his response was it was his word against ours, we was not refunding our money because we could not prove the sandwich was made wrong.

In response to Steve - Cary, North Carolina:

My fiance ordered the sandwiches, I was not present. He told the employee which bread I wanted. I know this for a fact, because I heard him relay it to her, as he called to ask me what I wanted (It was late, and we found from past experience that they sometimes run out of certain breads). I'm sure he wasn't staring at the employee the whole time since he had our small son with him, I wanted everything (except Jalapenos) on the sandwich, and we had never received anything other than we ordered in the past (and we frequent Subway often). Also, after the employee cuts the bread and begins putting the condiments on, you can't tell which bread it is anyway, because the discernable side is facing the counter.

We returned home to eat our sandwiches and soup, at which point I opened my sandwich and saw that it was not Italian Herb & Cheese as I heard him relay to the employee but Sourdough. I would have dealt with that, except as I explained in the initial posting, the meat sandwiches had more veggies than my veggie sandwich.

We were going to the second restaurant so the kids could play and my daughter and her friend could eat (they were at dance class when we had the Subway). We had also arranged to meet my daughter's friend's mother there, as the girls were spending the night with her.

The Police pulled us over specifically because of the Subway Incident. As I stated in my initial posting, the owner called the police, I waited for 15 minutes or so for the police to come, asked the owner if they were in fact coming, he said he didn't know, my fiance called and said we needed to go. I tried to get my fiance to take the kids himself and come back for me but I ended up giving in and leaving anyway, but with full intentions on calling the police myself. During the conversation with my fiance I mentioned the restaurants name, several times right in front of the subway owner and the subway owner had already described to the police, on the phone, what I was wearing. I'm very aware that leaving wasn't the brightest thing to do, but I did it anyway (it was after 8:00pm and my daughter and her friend were hungry).

The officers pulled us over as we were getting ready to pull into the second restaurants parking lot. Either they seen us leaving the Subway and followed us but did not immediately pull us over, or the Subway owner told them the name of the restaurant I mentioned on the phone. Either way, it didn't matter because we weren't trying to run, believe me I had every intention of calling the police myself. We were not in the wrong the Subway owner was.

HUH?

How was your sandwich NOT what you ordered? Every Subway I have ever been in, the first thing they ask is what type of bread; then they make the sandwich RIGHT IN FRONT of you. So how did you NOT know it was wrong?!

You ordered 3 sandwiches and 2 soups and (apparently) took them home to eat, but were going to another restaurant just a little bit later? Why go out twice?

And did the police say WHY they pulled you over?

#1 Consumer Suggestion

I have been to that Subway but I will not go there again.

Thank you Danielle, I have been to that Subway but I will not go there again. That behavior is terrible, what ever happened to customer's always right? I have worked in food service, and generally if the customer is not satisfied, we would replace or refund. What was he trippin on anyway, it's not even $3.

I will not go back to that Subway!

Fellow Antioch resident.
