On 6/9/04 I ordered one chocolate mold from Sugarcraft. As soon as I ordered I paid $8.20 with my Debit card. I ONLY authorized $8.20 to come out of my account. Then I received an email confirmation saying that I had paid $8.20 ($2.95 for the item and $5.25 for shipping). When I looked at my bank account this morning they had charged me $9.20. I know it is only a dollar, but it was the principle. So, I emailed them the following (with an attachment of the email confirmation they had sent me):

Hello, Attached is the credit card transaction for my order. I ordered "Princess Coach sck CUTE! 3x3 inch 3 cavity mold #AO-1110 $2.25" chocolate molds on June 9, 2004. I paid $8.20 for the product plus shipping. You charged my checking account for $9.20. Below is a copy of my online bank statement and the total you charged.

(I showed them the part of my bank statement where they had charged me $9.20). Here was the first response from Sugarcraft:

"I am told that UPS charged $1.00 more - they said "for your area" - That is the difference - UPS charges.
Dolores at www.sugarcraft.com"

So I responded and said:

That does not matter!! When I approved the credit card transaction, I approved it for $8.20 NOT $9.20. It is illegal to charge someone for a different amount than what they approved. I had to pay $5.25 for shipping and handling (which was way to high anyway), I'm sure that extra $1.00 that UPS charges could have come out of that. I don't care if it was $1.00 or $100.00 you CAN NOT charge someone more than what you told them you would charge and what they approved!!! I want my $1.00 refunded to me or I will get nasty. It is the principle of the matter. You can not just go around charging people whatever you want.

So she responded and said:

didn't charge you that - UPS did. We have no control over them. This 1.00 has already been deducted per UPS. I cannot get it back. We have no control over UPS and what they charge. I am going to send you a copy of exactly what you got and agreed upon when you ordered. Which you would have been emailed a copy and should have protested then if you did not agree.

So she emails me the SAME THING I sent her in the very first email. And SURE ENOUGH it said $8.20 not $9.20. So I emailed her and pointed out that even the email she just sent me only said $8.20 not $9.20. And I also told her that SUGARCRAFT is the one that charged me NOT UPS. It says SUGARCRAFT on my bank statement and NO ONE else!!!! And that if UPS did charge me, WHO gave them the right to. How could they say they have NO CONTROL over UPS if the charges on my bank statement show that they are all from Sugarcraft???

Sugarcraft did not respond to my last email

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 15, 2004

After Sugarcraft did not respond to my last email, I decided to go to their website and and post a "friendly reminder" on their website. Just as another patron of Ripoffreport.com did when she was ripped off by Sugarcraft. I wrote:

"Hello, I just wanted to remind all readers to go to the Better Business Bureau website before ordering from any company online. Even if they seem like a friendly Christian company. They could end up charging you more than what you approved for your credit card transaction."

They responded by saying:

"BBB has no jurisdiction over any company. They merely collect information, true and VERY untrue, on any company that any bad person sends them. Most companies nowadays don't have time to reply to them. I certainly don't. Maybe the company you are complaining about had a warning like we have on our website where shipping method is chosen. We are honest and tell people right up front that we don't know if UPS will charge the price we estimate. We caught them charging more for outlying areas and a few other 'hidden' things. Of course we can do nothing about that so this is why we post all the information in case UPS pulls that on our customers.

We have the following information right below where the products chosen are seen. This is easy to read since it is with the Shipping Method:
"*UPS charges additional $2.15 for delivery to some areas. Shipping charge will be adjusted without notification."

I would advise anyone selling anything to do the same - since we can't really tell what they WILL charge when they sneak one in on us. "

So, I responded by saying:

"BUT the company is responsible for charging you whether it is $2.15 or $500 YOU (the company) are the one ULTIMATELY responsible. YOU (NOT UPS) are the ones that CHARGE our credit cards. YOU are the one that runs the credit card through YOUR machine, NOT UPS. So if you are planning on running through 102.15 when the customer only approved 100.00 you'd better be notifying them. It is YOUR HANDS that type in the number NOT UPS."

So, I emailed UPS this morning telling them what Sugarcraft was doing. I told them exactly what I said here in the first report. I have also reported them to the BBB.
