My mom and I were at a concert in Hershey, PA in March and there were people outside the venue having concert-goers fill out a form to enter a drawing for 10 free LiveNation tickets.  A few weeks later I got a call from Sundace Vacations saying I didn't win the tickets but that I would get a free cruise if I sit through a presentation.

So, my mom and I sat through the presentation and of course were impressed by the high pressure sales tactics that they used.  First, we were told we could buy 30 weeks of vacations for $15,000, or $12,000 if I signed on that night.  We were also told that if we didn't agree to it that night that should we want it in the future we would have to come back and pay $15,000 up from with no financing options.  Being a mother of two, a college student, and just coming off a year long battle with cancer, of course I said no that I couldn't afford it.  They then came back with counteroffers and we finally said ok to a 10 vacation package deal for $4,000, or $499 a vacation.

This was all offered and only guaranteed if I signed up with them that night.  I was not able to go home and talk it over with my husband, or do some research on the company; if I wanted the deal, I had to sign on the dotten line that very night.  Once I was home for a couple of days I did do some research on them and found many, many compalints about their services.  That people did not receive what they were promised and that other who did use their services said their condos were dirty and they were forced to pay extra fees for their vacations that they were not aware they would have to pay when they signed up for this.

Once I got home that night, I registered for my free cruise and was told on the website that I would receive information on where to send my deposit and port tax fees for it in a couple of weeks.  It is now 3 months later and I still have not received anything about this 'free' cruise I was supposed to get.

Once I had a few days to actually sit down and read the 10 page contract I saw that it would cost and extra $30/night during peak season to stay at their resorts.  Once I did the math and figured in all the extra fees that would have to be paid, it came out to over $1,000 a week!  Far from the $499 that was promised to me.

Sundance also offer something called an excess inventory where unbooked condos can be booked for $198 for the week.  I wanted to book one for the end of August for my husband and I and then I saw in my contract that because I signed on with them in the month of May, I was not entitled to book any vacations until after September 1st!  How can they take my deposit ($900) and three monthly payments from me and deny me the right to book?

I called their headquarters to cancel my contract out of pure disgust with their company and was told it was impossable to cancel my contract because I had a loan balance with them.  Doesn't this company want to satisfy its customers?  Or will it continue to dupe innocent people and take their money for the rotten service they provide?

TAN

AUTHOR: anon442 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, September 26, 2011

Can any ex-employees give us unsatisfied consumers tips on how to get our money back from TAN.  My husband and I have had a membership for many, many years.  They pretty much pressured us into signing the agreement.  We were there for hours...

The one place we stayed was so dirty and horrible.  TAN gave us back our week but for what??  We haven't been able to plan another vacation.  Plus it's never the amount you sign up for.  Like the ex-employee says you pay so much for it being season, so much for this, and that.  Turns out to be more.  UGH!  I just want my money back!

PLAN WITH TAN-Vacations RIP OFF!

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 15, 2010

I am so sorry that you got into this. I too got ripped off by them.. 12,000 31 vacations. I have yet in the 4 years I have been paying them.. to take a vacation. If you really look at it that 99 dollars turns into 400 or 500 week to stay anywhere. You better not try to get a flight with them either!   My sister booked a place last summer in Myrtle Beach using my TAN!!! well this is what she got! .. IT was roach infested .. so much that she had to go somewhere else and Tan almost did not want to give her money back.. they kept 50.00 of it. It took 3 months for them to even give her the money back. She said the place was run down.. It is totally sad how they rip people off. I feel you on everything that you are saying it is just disgusting how they do this to people and if you contact the BBB they will say check out a company before buying .. . but yet they are accrediated. What we don't realize is when you call and ask for a 1 bedroom.. I always got nothing available you have to upgrade to 2 bedroom which is about 500.00 week. We as consumers don't know if they are just telling us that to get the 500.00 or not. I  just don't get it!   I know this much something needs to be done about them PERIOD!!!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

From a Travel Advantage Network Employee

AUTHOR: gina - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 04, 2010

I am an ex- employee of TAN, or Travel Advantage Network.  Everything negative that you are saying is true.  They are a rip off and a scam.  The salesmen make it look nice while they are giving you their sales pitch, but they don't tell you the whole truth.  The resorts that they show you at the presentation are VIP resorts, or they could be VIP units.  They don't show you what you will be getting if you sign up as a regular TAN client.  The regular units, most of them suck and are out of date and dirty.  I have walked through many of these units, and most of them are not clean and roach infested.  The fees that they charge is also a lie.  They tell you at the sales presentation that you can travel to anywhere you want for 99.00 dollars.  Yeah, if you want to go the beach in the middle of January in 20 degree weather.  This is considered non-peak season.  For peak season you have to pay 30.00 extra per night, and also of you want to upgrade to a 2 or a 3 bedroom unit, you also pay 30.00 per night extra, per bedroom.  If anyone is thinking about joining TAN, or Sundance Vacations, you need to think twice about it.  I worked in customer service at TAN and I was a vacation rerservationist and I had to deal with alot of angry people that felt they got ripped off, and they did.  Don't think that you can't get your money back, because you can.  I have seen it a million times.  Don't give in.  They will try to reduce your package so that your monthly payments are cheaper, don't do it because you will wind up paying the same, or more money for the package, because they add on more finance charges, and they stretch your loan time out to be longer.  DONT DO IT PEOPLE, DONT JOIN TRAVEL ADVANTAGE NETWORK OR SUNDANCE VACATIONS, BECAUSE IT IS A SCAM, I WORKED THERE FOR 2 YEARS AND GOT FIRED BECAUSE I TOOK A CLIENT'S SIDE!!

they are a scam

AUTHOR: Karen - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, November 11, 2009

I too fell for this scam.. I paid 4000 up front and 8000 over the next 5 years.. I have not seen one vacation 1. when you book you are almost paying triple. I let my sister book a place over the summer she paid 375.00 for a place in SC only to get there the first day and the place was infested with roaches.. This is a scam and in this day and time with how people are scrapped for cash.. I can't see myself throwing away money anymore for this type of mess. The scam people and then decide if and when you can really take a vacation.. If anyone reads this they need to NOT deal with Sundance Vacations or PLAN WITH TAN, or TRAVEL ADVANTAGE NETWORK.. THEY ARE all the same company..  I almost got a tripled booked to CANCUN only after writing to the BBB and getting a call from them and they decided not to charge me the upgrade fee because i needed a place to sleep 4 only to find out that they flight would cost me 2 grand.. I ended up paying insurance and not being able to go due to my son being sick.. Call to cancel and was told i didn't do it with in 30 days.. well i don't plan for my child o be sick.. 30 days in advance.. This is a rip off.. I hope some one sees this and can tell everyone on this board how to get out of this. They are taking people money and getting away with it.. I am not paying anymore. I can see paying for something and not receiving anything.
