We purchased an RV from Sunrise Camping Center in late October 2014.  Since it was past camping season and we were not planning to use the camper until spring, we asked the service manager if the camper had been winterized.  He said it was.  The camper went into storage for the winter.  Prior to our first trip, we thought it would be a good idea to flush the water lines.  Low and behold....water everywhere.  The toilet valve was broken and the water pump was spewing water everywhere. No sign of winterization fluid in the lines.  Of course they are denying theu told us us the camper had been winterized and we are on the hook for all repairs.   I should have known that this company was inefficient from the start.  After giving them a check for the payout to Bank of America, I received a call from BofA asking why my payments were 2 months in arrears.  They held onto the check and not until I called and reminded them they were responsible for the payoff as well as any late fees and threatened a lawsuit for damage to my credit report did they complete the payoff.  Not at lot happy with this company. Consumers beware.

As a Consumer and well respected local licensed contractor business we ourselves are dealing to the unscrupulous financial doings regarding Sunrise Camping Center/Ally Bank as well for over 2 1/2 years. It was regarding a loan from RV dealership in which we returned highly defective product back to dealership within days and even hired lawyer to file C & D with them- and this involved in the dealership (4 MEN INCLUDING GM) ACTUALLY BERATING AND ACCOSTING MY WIFE WHEN SHE RETURNED THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT TO THEIR LOT to where she froze and broke down in tears crying (I didn't know till hours later)... 

fOR OVER 2 1/2 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN IN A NIGHTMARE. My wife having PTSD even and we have gone through hell and back trying to get satisfaction as a consumer to no avail- Ally seemingly getting away with financial extortion as several persons in their own Financial Collection Department even reiterated in August 2016 when we last talked to them...

Our situatuion saw a lawsuit filed, then after months of delays, Sunrise Camping Center's lawyer requested mediation which was another waste of time & monies. All we wanted was for the dealership to refund all the payments we made monthly as advised to protect my personal & business credit and the loan balance back to the Lender so Ally would be satisfied and the dealership could receive the title thereafter to re-sell that product. Dealership said camper depreciated so much in a year (been in their possession since April 2014), that they only offered to pay us $10,000.00. That meant we would still have to pay several thousand dollars more to Ally for loan balance to be paid off and be out of all the former monthly payments already made plus legal costs! NONE of this makes sense. 

Then lawsuit prevailed after mediation and court dates rescheduled by Sunrises' lawyer on several occasions again. In this time, our lawyer started to reverse himself from the hard hitting caring guy we first hired and paid and filed C&D and lawsuit with charges, to the guy sho was afraid of his local business and good old boy network that prevails here in Hickory, NC legal realms as he put it... He thought we should have taken Sunrise's offer in Mediation, so filed to stop representing us, leaving us hang before scheduled trial date...

SO we get to point of actual day of a trial hearing (February 2016), we were told from another lawyer to simply ask for continuance and should be no problem, to give us time to find new lawyer. In front of Judge Amy Sigmon we pleaded twice to her to allow us a continuance to find new lawyer (we already had contacted many in this time frame), and she refused us to do so and demanded a trial hearing proceed! We are not lawyers. We do not know processes. She didn't care! In one fell swoop, this Judge effectively swept everything and every charge under the rug and closed this case! Our RV industry expert in Phoenix we had from day one, tons of information, docs, etc never saw the light of day with her doing this because we were refused time to find new lawyer after ours walked away after mediation! EVEN fact the former GM of Sunrise (George Petree) called us at our home last October one night upset saying he quit working there after our mediation, due to evil operations and many good people being hurt finacniallly by the dealership and loans, that his conscience haunted him so long in our case and he wanted to help us! He has now disappeared never to be heard of since.

As a note, Sunrise's lawyer (Andrew Jackson Howell) works for the Sigmon/Mackie law firm in Hickory, NC- and the Judge's name is Amy Sigmon... 

The BBB and other resources are useless for consumers today. We even went to FTC and CFPB and all they do is recycle the same information between parties already known and never make any determination. We tried (still) to contact NC  Atty General Roy Cooper to re-open this case and never heard reply from him. We also contacted ACLU (Deborah Ross in NC), and they told us they were sorry and underfunded and had only 1 lawyer for entire State fo NC! 

And after 28 months of paying minimal payments to Ally (to preserve my creditworthiness throughout legal processes) since April 2014, we contacted Ally and told then Enough is Enough and we were tired of throwing monies to them for a defective product returned 2 1/2 years earlier to the dealership because the dealership refused to rescind & return said loan funds in the beginning to Ally!  All this could have been avoided if the "right thing" was done for the consumer in the beginning. August 2016 we talked to several persons inside Ally's Collection Department and they informed us that there never was anything ever inputted on their system about our demise and communications we had with a S. Gilliland from Ally since August  2014! NOW, as of last week, we have been served with papers from a Raleigh, NC law firm Ally has hired to go against us and "repossess" this camper  and the dammn thing has been with the dealership since April 2014 where it was returned highly defective then! My credit now has been hit badly for 2 months' time and ALL OF THIS IS VERY WRONG to see occur when we, as consumers, did nothing wrong, and the guilty parties get away doing this. NONE of them take any responsibility, and my wife is still haunted by how she was berated to tears by Sunrises' Owner (Paul Bowman) and GM (George Petree) and Maintenance person (Bobby) the day she dropped that camper off to rescind contract and return loan funds back in April 2014.... 

Then in all of this time, after a lawyer rating agency (AVVO) saw us give our lawyer 1 out of 5 stars, we received long messages on our home & business voicemails from our former lawyer (William Morgan/ Morgan Law Firm) hurt & upset saying he didn't deserve to get the 1 star rating we gave the service and was angry at us !!!

Need Investigation done

Speaking to an acquaintance some weeks back, they told us of their frustrated dealings to this same RV dealership in Hickory, and repeated repair problems they encountered never being recitified (finally took their new camper to another dealership across the State to be repaired); and found that the extended warranty monies they initially paid Sunrise during original financing were never given to the Insurance company when they filed claim, and at time of this posting, they had been trying for many months to get Sunrise to refund their monies or make this all right.

Problems with Product / Service | Read Complaint Details
Complaint: Financed $7500.00 with one bank , and sent to 2 banks. Have accounts with 2 different banks. Our monthly income on contract is wrong. Bought ************ pop up camper. Was sent to 2 different banks. Now we have 2 accounts with 2 banks ********** Bank & ******** Bank. Bought camper 08/21/2014. When info was sent to banks monthly income for us was inflated.
Desired Settlement: Pay off ******** Bank . Do not lie on credit apps.

Problems with Product / Service | Read Complaint Details
Complaint: Failure to call and discuss needed repairs under warranty issues with leaking. Camper been in shop 3 times for same problem. Camper bought 7/2013.
Desired Settlement: Money back or different camper.
Business Response Concerning Case #******...  We have performed service on customer's unit to resolve warranty issues, all different in nature. We have also performed non warranty issues. Three employees actually spoke to the customer as recently as yesterday, 1-21-14. We are currently awaiting parts from the manufacturer to resolve his latest issue. Unethical Practices in Commerce

 My suggetsion is for anyone who has had similar problems with this camper dealership, and many are out there, to notify the FTC (Fair Trade Commission) via their website or telephone, and file complaint with them, and they will investigate anything with multiple consumer complaints regarding bad, unethical or deceptive commerce dealings like this.

I believe also just down the road from Sunrise Camper an automotive group (Paramoount Kia ?) was investigated too by the FTC not too long ago for deceptive consumer lending practices, and it did not go too well for them.  Go to www.FTC.gov.

Getting local lawyers involved, sadly, too many times, because there are so many out there looking for work, they are looking to create a cashflow for themselves and hardly care about damage done to good hard working decent citizens or their credit or the further financial costs the clients are having to absorb because of shady dealerships.

Join the Crowd, we returned new camper within days with multiple problems

The brand new camper we bought in April, 2014 and literally started to fall apart hours after receiving it, and  subsequently returning it within days, still sits on their lot; and we are still making loan payments to the lender to preserve my credit. Sunrise only wanted to submit multiple warranty repair claims to Coachmen so they would make more money. With amount of problems it was evdient they could NOT have done a 100% pre-delivery inspection of unit as required under law. But they already made money off the profit markup, and then point spread from loan deal from Lender. And what we got was like some Dealer Demo unit and plagued with many problems from busted water lines to leaking hot water heater to leaking gas line to inoperable electrical items to broken cd player to loose lugnuts on both wheels including side slider coming open on Interstate highway at 70 MPH ! Somebody could have gotten killed my God !

We did hire attorney (for what good that really does in this area) after we tried to get Sunrise to do the right thing and take this bad unit back and clear the loan back to lender as we did NOT feel safe with this at all and everybody part their ways. Sunrise could have fixed that and resold it later so would not be out anything. They refused to do so, changed their original "we want to be your friend" tune and harrassed & bullied my wife badly to tears when she dropped camper off one afternoon even (she is legally diagnosed with PTSD). I was so d**n mad seeing this happen and what they did to her that day. When I called them demanding satisfaction, they mocked me and laughed at me on the phone playing verbal games and taunted me. 

We have spent lots of $$$ thus far, finally took 10 months to get to Mediation which Sunrise actually asked to do and kept delaying the date; but they only offered to give us partial payment back (saying camper now has depreciated a lot), leaving us several thousands owed on loan still, and demanded us pay those off so they could receive clear title for that camper thereafter. They refused to pay back any of the monthly loan payment we have been making since and legal/court costs we have already paid to date. We even posted our bad consumer business dealings with Sunrise on ROR here (before hiring attorney) and had many others contact us to their disatisfied dealings to Sunrise, yet we returned a lemon of a camper and bad deal, and instead of Sunrise doing the right thing and paying loan monines back to lender last April/May time frame,

they decided to stall and delay and countersue us for Defamation of Character because we posted our documented facts here on ROR then, and now here we sit with 15 months of payment made on a product we returned 'defective" and we no longer have in our possession, nor have any insurance on it, and County tax office even rescinded tax bill last May realizing we returned a defective camper last April and should not pay any tax on it...  yet Sunrise acted like they can never be touched and are never wrong- and I as a local respected small business owner would NEVER treat any customer the way we have been treated after they received downpayment and then Lender loan funds, and especially with a defective product and potential safety issues on the highway, and should have taken the deal back.

We found out in NC there are NO "lemon laws" regarding RV industry vehicles even and only automobiles which is VERY wrong!  Allows too much fraud and deceptive/predatory practices to continue and "good old boy" trickery... 

Now due to legal processes in NC legal system, and mediation that was a total waste, to even go to trial, lawyer wants new large retainer and additional funds to do that over what we already have paid to date and now wants to bow out on us after he was the one who ignited our flame originally when we went to him on referral and gave documentation to problems and even had an RV industry expert witness call him who was willing to fly in for a hearing, and now we feel we are left hanging out here still paying off balance of current legal bill and NONE of this ever had to happen had Sunrise done the right thing from day one last April! The lawyer was the one whose demand letter to Sunrise originally encompassed product liability, safety, etc and hosts of charges and defective problems, and now seems like we are dumped on the sidelines because we cannot pay additional funds right now to even go into trial phase, and lawyers now changing tune and talking down doing so and all the costs to go to a trail, etc... ???

Way I feel today, I would like to see a class action suit brought against Sunrise Camping Center et al by some lawyer who really has balls (not from local area) and gumption and cares about consumer safety and families first, over their $200 to 300/hour fees they want to charge plus monthly statement prep charges and hosts of other fees plus $100.00 to drive from Hickory to Newton courthouse... No wonder why people across this nation are pissed off at justice system and have little faith in it any longer when decent law abiding citizens get screwed by shady business practices and the like out there more fashionable than ever before, and the financial drain on those victims is ridiculous and the "bad guys" seem to get away doing what they do.
