Wow.  I can't believe the way I was treated at Sunset Nursery.

I went with my boyfriend under the yelp guise that this place was "amazing!".  I mean, so many reviews and such a high rating, how could we go wrong!?

I went to the back of the store on a Saturday and there were Peace Lillies marked down because they had brown tips and only one bloom (the other plant had none).

I grabbed the one WITH the bloom as it was marked "$11.99" while others in the front of the store at a much higher quality were marked "$26.99".  WOW! My lucky day, right?  They were even in a little section called "discount plants" which I was excited about because I have a particularly green thumb, I take great satisfaction out of nursing almost dead plants back to a healthy place.

I slap my card and my plant onto the table, along with an adorable little succulent onto the table.  White skinny dude starts to get nervous, takes off the discount sticker, and rings up my total as $45.99.

"WHOA! that's not right!"

He all of a sudden pawns my purchase off onto the fat mustachio'ed man.

Fat Mustachio'ed man says, "no i can't sell this to you"

"what? Like not at all?"

"not at this price, no"

"but... it's got several stickers on it, it was in the mark down section, it's clearly labeled discount!"

I'm not one to be confrontational, but i was very confused. maybe i had made a mistake?

so, i grabbed the other bloomless plant also marked $11.99.

"no, i can't sell this to you EITHER"

"ok... something is wrong here, I want this plant - what do you mean you can't sell this to me?"

"i just can't"

"ok, fine - then i don't want ANY of your products"

at this point, fat mustachio'ed man had already started happily grooming my plant to look like one of the $27 ones.

"ok, fine - i'll take THIS one at the $11.99 price."

"NO! you can't have EITHER of these plants for that price"

he's thinking some old lady SAP is going to come in here and pay full price for these crappy plants.

me: "no! i'll take BOTH of them at the CLEARLY marked price"

him: "NO. I CANNOT SELL YOU THESE PLANTS AT THIS PRICE"

me: "why not? what's the difference?"

this man refused to sell me anything just because he didn't want to take the loss.  Just because it was a saturday and someone obviously had marked these half-dead plants on a monday.  

MY advice?  Never go here.  THey have a great location and a great selection - why?  because they are jerks.  they BAIT & SWITCH! it's these tactics that keep them in business.

I would have never gone here had my boyfriend and i not scoped their rad reviews online.  This is not an American store, this is NOT a place of business that keeps the customer in mind.

This guy could have just not mentioned a word and eaten the sale because someone in the store had previously made a huge error, or maybe not?  these dead plants were on their way up to the big nursery in the sky -- instead he embarrassed me in front of the entire store.  It was really disgusting business practice and one we wont soon forget.
