On October 5th I ordered a Bower Digital Slave flash for my SLR Camera from Sunset Electronic's on Amazon.com  Order Number: 002-8685153-2009035

I received my order in a timely fashion, when I opened the box, I noticed it was scratched and used, this was a REFIRBISHED item that was sold as NEW. Since it was all I had to use, I decided to let it go as water under the bridge and keep it. When I went to use it, it did not work, the flash was broke. I called several times and followed up with emails. No one answered my calls or emails so i went on Amazon and filed a Consumer Report.

The next day I go a call from a man working at sunset electronics (for all I know it could have been the owner) Stressing how sorry they were and said he was going to make this right by sending me an upgrade at no charge. I let him know that he didn't have to do that, just send me the same one, but I wanted a NEW Working one. He said before he can generate a new order, I needed to go on Amazon and delete the complaint, believing him I did as he requested. He said I'd have my order by the end of the week.

The end of the week came and went, I followed up with an email letting him know that I did not get my flash, he said I should have it by the middle of the following week. I asked him for a tracking #, he said there was no tracking # because he sent it out regular mail. One hour later I get an email with a tracking #.  When I went to track the package, I was informed that the package was only reserved for pick up, it had not been mailed out yet.

On Friday Nov 5th I finally received my package, when I opened it, I was in total shock, only to find it was a Cheap Zeikos $10 flash for a childs camra.

I went to write a consumer report on Amazon and found that since I deleted my first one I couldn't write another one. It was then that i realize when he said he was replacing my flash he was Lying only to get me to delete my first report knowing I couldn't right another one.

I checked Sunset Electronic's store for this cheap Zeikos flash and found they don't even carry this cheap garbage.   Thinking back, the reason I didn't get my order when he said I would is because they themselves went and ordered this from another Amazon retailer and had to wait till it was sent to them before they could send it to me.

This p***k even covered his tracks by sending me this Cheap flash outside of the ordering information on Amazon so it couldn't be traced back to them as my replacement. The buck don't stop here, I'm going to make sure I let as many people as i can know how this business operates.

I want justice.

#2 Consumer Comment

Stay away from this company

I have read the Report and found out that we had a similar situation.
Being in trust with Amazon i didn't carefully checked the seller before buying my DSL camera. What happened is..the camera body came on time with a paper saying "to make a timely delivery we had to send the lens separate". After two days still not having our lens and not knowing when to expect them i called the company. Without any sorries or anything i've been told that lens are to come in one more week!! So total it took them 10 more days to deliver the whole camera. The camera was new though.

I went to Amazon to make a review, i wrote total truth of what happened and warned others to read company policy before they buy anything cause of this restocking fee. The next day we got a call from the company saying that we should have contacted them to resolve the problem (reminder: I called to ask about the lens). The guy suggested to give us extra flash card, extra battery and 1 year warranty for the camera if WE DELETE OUR REVIEW FROM AMAZON. We did that and were said that by the end of the week we will have our stuff.

Two weeks passed and we still got nothing. We e-maild the guy and he said if it didn't come it means it was LOST on the way and they do not have responsibility for that (It's in their policy also). It's so clear that they are CHEATING. We sent back saying we are going to complain to Amazon and this is not the right way to deal with customers. After a couple of days we received what we were promised.

As our review were deleted and we cannot make another one, i still want to make a complaint to Amazon about what they are doing. Most of people trust amazon and buy stuff without checking much who they are buying from and as they MAKE YOU DELETE the review all the reviews are positive and it's misleading to others!

Sunset Electronics is the Worst

AUTHOR: ryskimac13 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, February 16, 2013

I cannot begin to explain how unprofessional and consumer unfriendly this company is.  If Amazon still has a relationship with Sunset Electronics, I'd end it immediately.

I ordered the product for my brother.  First off, the packaging that it came in looked like it was used as a WWF wrestling mat prior to being shipped.  When I opened the box, the video camera was there, but the rest of the "accessories" was for digital photography which my brother did not need.
I called them the next day to return the item.  The customer service rep (Rep #1) is putting on a hard sell for me to keep the stuff and they'd send me out the proper accessories.  I tell him I appreciate that, but I'd like to return everything because I ordered the wrong camera and I found a better deal for another.  I get the RMA and return the package.

I figure everything's fine and taken care of. A few days later, I get an email saying that I'm only getting 85% of my purchase returned to me. I called them immediately to inquire why I was not getting the full refund: I sent everything back in it's original packaging the day I got the RMA. The customer service rep tells me that it's Sunset's policy that returns are charged a 15% restocking fee, which is a fine policy but it'd be nice if the policy was made known to the consumer.  The rep said that if you click on a link when you buy it from Amazon, you'll see the 15% restocking fee. I countered with the fact that the link doesn't say, "RETURN DETAILS" or anything helpful like that, it just says, "Sunset Electronics."  And yes, I am partially at fault for not clicking on the Sunset link, but I was on the phone with the rep asking him what I have to do to return the package and he never mentioned the restocking fee, which is shady in my opinion. Their argument was that restocking the package took a lot of "man hours"... huh? What man hours?  You take the camera out of the box and put it on a shelf. It takes thirty seconds! Jesus Christ, lawyers aren't this sheisty.

I tell them that I have no problem paying for their shipping cost. I put the order in to be shipped to my address so the delivery charge should be on me, but I want the rest of the purchase back because I sent it back to them immediately. The rep that I talk to this time, Rep #2, is on my side and I hear him telling his superior that I should get refunded. I tell Rep #2 that I would like to talk to his superior because I feel bad that he is caught in the middle of this. Rep #2 says his boss can't and that he's busy.  (Maybe, they get a lot of annoyed customers in need of returns.) After about half an hour of back and forth, they offer to return me half of the restocking fee: 7.5%.  At this point, I am so tired of hearing the word, "restocking fee", that I accept half the return.  They said in 3-5 business days, I'll be refunded the 7.5%. On a side note, I understand a restocking fee if you return a purchase after a month or so, but I returned it the day that I received it. Come on! It's next day shipping! I wonder if they charge a restocking fee when people come in to the store and the salesperson shows them numerous cameras from the shelf? (I'm being ridiculous, but I don't care because what happens next is something that I'm still in awe of days later.)

So I wait for the email showing me the refund. 3 days go by...5 days go by....a week goes by...finally, 30 days go by and I call them. Now, I'm pissed! Before I was annoyed, now it's a different ballgame.

My call is miraculously answered by Rep #2's superiors. I tell him the situation and how I haven't been reimbursed half of my return.  He has no idea what I'm talking about, but SOMEHOW he remembers the condition of the returned package.  He said it was mangled.  I tell him I know; that's how it was shipped to me.  Then, he says to me the dumbest thing I've EVER heard a business man say, "Well, I hope for your sake, that the person who just bought your product isn't upset about the quality of the packaging."  I stop him immediately! "Wait, are you telling me you don't open the packages that are returned to you by customers before you ship them off?" There's an awkward pause, then he says, "Oh...no... we do, but you're lucky they haven't complained."  Well, then why in the name of god should that matter?!!!! Once a customer returns a package and receive an email saying THE PRODUCT WAS RETURNED IN ORDER, how does it become my problem?! Those words came out of this moron's mouth and amazingly, he is in charge of other people in the company. Also, this company may resell returned packages without opening them. How else am I supposed to interpret that comment?

I explain to this inventory genius that none of that is my problem, I just want the money that you agreed to return to me.  He doesn't remember that nor does Rep #2, who he says is right next to him. I tell him that if he doesn't remember this specific issue -- which should be logged in their computer records -- you should get a job with the DMV because you'd probably deal with less disgruntled customers.  Eventually, he passes me on to his superior who finally agrees to give me my money back as long as I give them... a five star rating on Amazon!

Sunset Electronics, you are truly a one of a kind organization.
